SR. ALICE MARIE LEBLANC - WINOOSKI - Sr. Alice Marie LeBlanc, 89, formally known as Sr. Daniella, a Sister of Providence, died on Aug. 28, 2013, in Our Lady of Providence, in Winooski. Sr. Alice was born in Winooski on Aug. 23, 1924, the daughter of William and Albina (Marcotte) LeBlanc. Sister entered the Sisters of Providence Congregation on July 17, 1946, and pronounced her temporary vows July 1948 and perpetual vows July 15, 1951. Sister Alice would from that date be called by her given religious name, Sister Daniella until the Sisters of Providence returned to their legal names. At her death, Sister Alice Marie LeBlanc was a Religious Nun for 62 years. In 1969, Sister attended Great Falls College in Montana to pursue studies in Education. She started her teaching career at Maryville Academy in Des Plaines, Ill., in 1948. She was missioned at St. Joseph's Orphanage in Burlington, St. Johnsbury, and St. Francis Xavier School in Winooski. Sister's involvement during those years consisted of CCD tutoring, training altar servers, and teaching reading skills. Sister Alice was proud of having crowned the Blessed Virgin statue herself and continued to prepare children to participate in May Crownings. In 1998, health issues and surgery made her unable to get around and slowed her down considerably for 15 years until her death. Sister Alice is survived by her religious family; sisters-in-law, Winifred LeBlanc and Rebecca LeBlanc; many nephews and nieces; as well as her extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, William and Albina; her sisters, Simone Parot, Emelda Shea, Theresa Rathe, Anita Plunkett, Lucille Flannery; her brothers, Armand, Leo, Raymond, and Robert LeBlanc; and great-nephews, Kevin Couture, Michael Luchini and Shannon Parot. At Sister Alice's request, there will be no wake prayer service and she will have a closed casket at her visiting hours on Monday, Sept. 2, 2013, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Our Lady of Providence Chapel, 47 West Spring St., Winooski. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Providence Chapel on Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013, at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery. Arrangements are with the LaVigne Funeral Home, 132 Main St., in Winooski. Memorial contributions may be made to Mother Gamelin's Fund, c/o St. Francis Xavier School, 5 St. Peter St., Winooski, VT 05404.

Sr. Daniella was my Second Grade teacher in 1949 in Maryville Academy where I spent most of my childhood. She is the only person who gave me love as a child. Enough love to carry me through a lifetime. I used to grab her hands to smell them telling her Sister, your hands smell like the Virgen Mary's. After awhile I learned it was the Jergens lotion, which I still use today and fondly think of her. She would play a game with us in the girls yard in the fall. The leaves would be blowing every which way and she would say come on girls, catch them. For every leaf you catch you will save another soul from Purgatory. I spent my adult life fighting poverty and building community thanks to her love. Saving souls from Purgatory. To the family, I offer my deep condolences. Heaven is a little more beautiful as I know that the Blessed Mother has her in her arms. Sharon Hunt. Age 76. (I was stunned to realize how young she was. She was truly a beautiful person.)

Sr. Alice,
It was a great honor being able to know you. You were special to our family. We got to know you whenever we were visiting our mom while she cut your hair. Our kids loved seeing you and receiving all of your gift you found for them. May you be at peace.
With All Our Love,
Debbie, Hunter, Michelle, Troy, Teeghan, & Gabbi.
