FRIEDA KAPHAN - SHELBURNE - Frieda (Schoenich) Kaphan, age 98, passed away peacefully on Sunday afternoon, April 27, 2014, in Spruce/ Linden at Wake Robin. Frieda, or as her family called her, Oma, was born in Vienna, Austria, on Sept. 29, 1915. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Ludwig "Vicky," whom she married in New York City in 1939. Oma is survived by her only son, Robert "Bob" Kaphan and daughter-in-law, Sarah, of South Burlington; two grandchildren, Carl and wife, Carolyn Kincaid, of San Francisco, Calif., and Dr. Sansea Jacobson and husband, Michael, of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and four great-grandchildren, Cleo and Josephine Kaphan, and Auden and Wilder Jacobson. She also leaves nephews, Frank Kaphan of Bradenton, Fla., and Herbert and wife, Brigitte Wallner, and niece, Karin Rainer in Vienna, Austria; and many dear and faithful longtime friends. Frieda was a "force of nature," who only stopped downhill skiing at the age of 88. Her good humor, love of friends and family, and caring nature will stay in our hearts. She will be missed. Bob and Sarah want to give their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Wake Robin for their compassionate care of Oma while she was a resident there. As she requested, there will be no services. The family will gather together this summer to remember this special, strong woman.

Frieda is a jewel and a person I aspired to become one day. She will be very much missed at Wake Robin.

Frieda was a lovely ray of sunshine at Wake Robin. I will miss her beautiful smile and her enthusiasm. I know she was not feeling well over the past several months, so I wish her peace, and to her family: What wonderful and enduring memoroies you still have of your beloved Oma.
