LEO S. KNOX JR. - ESSEX JUNCTION - Leo S. Knox Jr., 77, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013, at his home. He was born on Aug. 25, 1935, in Burlington, the son of Leo Sr. and Ruth (Clark) Knox. He attended school at Cathedral Grammar and Cathedral High School, graduating in 1953. He served in the U.S. Marines from 1953 to 1955. He worked for IBM in Essex Junction for 27 years. Leo was hired in 1957, and was one of the first native Vermonters hired in the Essex Junction plant. Leo was active in the Marine Corps League, serving as Commandant for 10 years. He was very involved with Toys for Kids of Vermont. An active member of VFW Post 6689 Essex Junction, he served as chaplain. He was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post 1 of St. Albans, the RVA of Winooski, and the Elks Club of Burlington. Leo was involved with the Vermont National Guard as an Honor Guard member, and was the flag presenter at USMC burials. Leo was an active member of Holy Family Church in Essex Junction, serving as Eucharistic Minister. Leo was Grand Marshal at the Essex Junction Memorial Day Parade in 2010. Leo was a longtime member of the Essex Junction community, and will be greatly missed by his many friends and acquaintances. He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Mary Ann; three children, Michael of Essex Junction, Kathy Twombly and husband, Peter, of Shelburne, and John and wife, Erin, of Essex Junction; three grandchildren, Alex and Jonathan Twombly, and William Knox; sister-in-law, Carol Halpin of Williston; and brother-in-law, Mike Lumbra of Danbury, Conn. Many thanks to his doctors and caregivers, especially, Dr. Eugene Moore. A Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Essex Junction. Visiting hours will be on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Corbin and Palmer Funeral Chapel, 9 Pleasant St., Essex Junction.
