John Kennedy

I just learned of John's passing from the St. Michael's College alumni magazine. I'm so sorry and hope the wonderful Cannon family can find peace in knowing that he was so well respected and loved.
John and I were good friends during our college years. English majors, we spent many hours talking over great ideas at Tut's in the North End. We also shared a passion for books, movies and interesting stories told and retold. Although we fell out of touch decades ago, my memories of John and his enthusiasm for life endure. It was a privilege to know him.

I believe that while here on earth, we are to help one another learn, grow and navigate this difficult journey. John was one of those people that embraced the simple things in life, reading, swimming, biking etc. He would always try to encourage others to do the same. He was always willing to help in any way he could. If you asked John for help with something, he would make the time. While working at CRCF, John and I did many transports together and had many conversations about life. We was most proud of his family and often talked about their success's. I learned a quite a bit about work and how to enjoy life through John's recollection of life experiences. . John put in many hours at work to try and get ahead. I can remember many conversations where he looked so exhausted but still managed to keep pushing on. John would always call to tell me he had signed up for an overtime transport and ask if I wanted some "Gravy OT". During night transports John would remind me that Delilah was on the radio, I would put it on and the inmates would all grumble. John got a kick out of that and would have a big smile on his face when I looked back in the mirror. John liked to see others improve their lives through education. Many times I've heard him talking to residents about educating themselves and making a better life. I've talked to him myself about some classes I was taking and he would get so excited. I know many of us are better for knowing John Cannon and the memories will live on in our minds and hearts for ever. I did not know about his battle in the last years but I'm sure he fought a great fight. He was not one to sit back and let things happen. He is a good friend. He will be greatly missed!
