I just wanted to share a story of how I met Howard. I consider his son Jake to be my best friend. Howard was on a book signing tour, and stopped off in my home town of St. Louis. I had not yet had the pleasure of meeting him. I took a couple of books that Jake wrote along with me(Every Man's Hand, and The Last Buffalo Hunter). My wife and I sat through Howard's reading of his new book, which we thoroughly enjoyed!! He was such a great story teller!! We then waited in line for Howard to sign a copy of "his" book for us. I plopped Jake's books down in front of him and asked if he could sign them. Howard looked up at me with the biggest grin on his face and said, "you must be Wes!!" We all got a good laugh of it. After he was done with his book signing, my wife and I chatted with Howard for quite a while. We laughed back and forth as we talked about mine and Jake's hunting adventures. It was very easy to see how much of Howard is in Jake!! The eyes, the laugh, the love for the great outdoors!! What an amazing man!! And what an honor to have known him!! He is deeply missed. My heart and my thoughts go out to Phillis, Annie, and Jake.

Howard was an exceptional writer, a gentleman, and an above average fisherman. It was a pleasure and an honor to have "Disappearances" (among the greatest gothics New England has ever seen) on our list for a decade. The Kingdom will not see his like again soon.

Phillis, Jake, Annie, and Terry, I was so sorry when Greta called me Sunday night to advise of Howard's passing. Seems like only yesterday when I sat in one of his first English classes as a junior at OHS, or watching him slowly jog or ski around Irasburg Common, from my front window. He is gone too soon. I hope he got my card before the end as I think he would appreciate the feelings I had for him. I am thinking of each of you and share your grief.

My deepest sympathy to the Mosher family.I became familiar with Howard's writing while sitting in a restaurant in St. Thomas USVI with a friend in the early eighties. My friend, a resident of St. Thomas, told me his favorite author was Howard Frank MosherI came back home to NH and bought one of his books.I loved it and have bought and devoured every one since. When Howard came to make a presentation one night in the Library in New London NH in about 2010 I was privileged to share that story of his far-reaching fame with himMay God bless him and give his family pride and peace

Howard, and my grandfather, James Hayford of Orleans, VT, were very good friends, Howard would often stop by my grandparents house to talk politics or to share writing pieces they were working on, they were great collaborators, and supported one another's work. I was very saddened when I read of his passing. Vermont has lost another great literary voice. My condolences to his wife and children.

Deepest Love to Phillis,Annie, and Jake.Howard was so larger than life, that he redefined that phrase in my experience from our first meeting at UVM around 1967 to this day. A monumental person. So kind but disinclined to tolerate fools.

Our sympathy to the Mosher family. Sorry to hear about Howard's passing. We knew him for many years. Certainly understood his love for animals. Our favorite book of his was "Waiting for Teddy Williams". May he rest in peace. Dr. and Mrs. Durward Starr North Troy, Vt. and Ft. Myers, Fl.
