GEORGE JOSINSKY Obituary

GEORGE A. JOSINSKY - BURLINGTON - George A. Josinsky, 98, of Burlington, passed away May 3, 2013. He was born on June 8, 1914, in Bayside, Queens, N.Y., to John and Mary Josinsky. He was one of eight children, all of whom have predeceased him. A man very proud of his military service, he was conscripted into the U.S. Army in April 1941. With the outbreak of W.W.II, his training brought him to Fort Ethan Allen in Colchester, and the Burlington area, where he met his future wife, Frances Gibbons. They were married on Sept. 14, 1943, and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary before she passed. With the U.S. involvement in Europe, he had more training in England prior to D Day on the morning of June 6, 1944, he landed on Omaha Beach in Normandy, France, with the U.S. forces. He was attached to the First U.S. Army, 49th Brigade 413th AAA Gun Battalion Battery C. He fought his way through France, St. Lo, Falaisse Gap, then onto Belgium, two battles of the Hurtgen Forest and the Battle of the Bulge in the Ardennes. He crossed the Rhine River during the Remagen Bridge assault, and ended up at the Elbe River in Germany at the end of the war, earning five battle stars. He was a lifetime member of the VFW. After the war, he settled down in Burlington to raise his family. He and Frances had four children, Mary, Joan, Jack and Ruth. He retired from the Burlington Electric Department in 1979. A very accomplished golfer, he won many club championships at the Burlington Country Club, where he was a member for over 30 years. He was well known throughout the state in his heyday for his golfing achievements. Later on, he was a member at Kwiniaska Golf Club for over 20 years. He is survived by his four children and their spouses, Mary Benoit and husband, Reg, of Colchester, Joan Montour and husband, Yvon, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Jack and wife, Carol Josinsky, of Colchester, and Ruth Kimball and husband, Larry, of Bluffton, S.C.; five grandchildren, Reg Benoit, Amy Provost, Aaron and Nate Josinsky, and Jennifer Laurie; eight great-grandchildren, Jeremy and Briana Benoit, Jacob, Cameron and Brady Provost, Ethan Laurie, and Max and Edith Josinsky; and many nieces and nephews. His family would like to thank the Visiting Nurse Association and the Vermont Respite House in Williston for the compassionate support and care they provided for George and his family. Visiting hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, May 13, 2013, at the Ready Funeral Home South Chapel, Shelburne Road in Burlington. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
