ALIDA ABRAHAMS WHITE - RICHMOND - Alida Beth Abrahams White, 55, of Richmond, died peacefully following a courageous battle with brain cancer on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, in the Vermont Respite House in Williston. Alida was born July 5, 1957, at South Nassau Community Hospital in Nassau County, N.Y., and grew up in the New York suburb of Freeport, on Long Island. She was a 1975 graduate of The Pomfret School in Pomfret, Conn., and attended the State University of New York in Potsdam. She met her husband, Lewis White, in 1983; they were married in February 1989, and moved to Richmond in 1992. Alida worked for 11 years at Food Science Corporation, and previously worked at North Star Leasing. She loved music, played guitar, and one of her happiest memories was jamming with Jorma Kaukonen following a performance at a club at which she was working. She also loved writing poetry and spending time in the sun with those she loved. A former resident of Lake Placid, N.Y., she attended the Olympics there in 1980. But, what gave Alida the greatest fulfillment was the connection she felt to family and friends, and the family home outside Richmond, where she could take walks in the country and breathe the clean Vermont air. Loved by many members of the community, Alida will be remembered for her kindness. She will be remembered for her bubbly personality, witty humor, and her ability to leave a smile on anybody's face. She was a member of Congregation Ohavi Zedek in Burlington. Predeceased by her parents, Morton and Beverly Abrahams; father-in-law, Lewis White Sr., and mother-in-law, Marge White, Alida is survived by her husband; her daughter, Marcia Lewise; sister, Debby Abrahams (Howard Gordon) of Rochester, N.Y.; brother, Rabbi David Abrahams of Fairport, N.Y.; and sister-in-law, Holly White of Huntington. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, at Gifford's Funeral Home, 22 Depot St. in Richmond. Cremation rites have been accorded. The family will receive visitors at the White residence, 2806 Huntington Road, Richmond, from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, and from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 14, 2013. The family has requested that any memorial contributions be made to The Vermont Respite House, 99 Allen Brook Lane, Williston, VT 05495, and Ohavi Zedek, 188 North Prospect St., Burlington, VT 05401.
