South Burlington - George E. Myers of South Burlington died at his residence on January 25, 2018,, surrounded by family and friends.

George was born in South Burlington in 1931, the third child of George J. and Gladys (Cota) Myers. He attended the New Eldridge and Central Schools and was a graduate of Cathedral High School class of 1949. After high school, he joined the US Navy and served on the USS Oriskany during the Korean conflict. Afterwards he attended Indiana Technical College and graduated with a degree in Engineering. He married the love of his life, Florence Rein in June of 1955 in Waterbury, CT.

George began his professional career at General Dynamics Electric Boat Division as a submarine test engineer in New London, CT. He then entered federal civil service at Mare Island Naval Shipyard in Vallejo, CA, shortly thereafter transferring to the Naval Ammunition Depot in Crane, IN. He then transferred to the Resident Inspector of Navy Materials office in Syracuse, NY. After that George worked in Defense Contract Analysis Operations (DCASO) in Binghamton, NY. When a spot opened up in DCASO in Burlington, George and his family moved back to his hometown of South Burlington where he became the chief of Production and Engineering until retirement in the 1980's.

He loved gardening, traveling and spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

He is survived by his children, Richard (Pam) Myers of Manchester, CT; Gail (Dean) Kirby of S. Burlington; Gary Myers of Hinesburg and a cousin Robert Cota of Colchester, as well as many nieces and nephews from the Myers and Cota families. George leaves five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Florence (Rein) Myers who passed away July, 8, 2017. He is also predeceased by his great granddaughter, Kaylin Mitchell, who passed away in September 2017, and his brother Clayton Myers, and sister Sylvia Burke.

George was a man of integrity, honesty and kindness. We will miss him, but know he is now at peace with the love of his life Florence.

We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the nurses and caregivers at the Gazebo Residences. The love and kindness to both George and his family are greatly appreciated.

There will be a memorial gathering at the Holiday Inn on Williston Rd., So. Burlington, on Friday, February 2 from 3pm to 7 pm. All are welcome. Donations can be made to a Parkinson's research organization or a Scholarship fund set up in the name of Kaylin Mitchell at South Burlington High School.
