Obituary Condolences

HELEN M. (LISTER) BURBO - BURLINGTON - Helen M. Burbo, 87, passed away unexpectedly at home on Tuesday, May 13, 2014. She was born in Burlington on April 17, 1927, the daughter of Charles D. and Marion (McLaughlin) Lister. She attended Winooski schools and worked in the American Woolen Mill, where she met her future husband, Walter J. Burbo Sr. They were married on Aug. 30, 1947, and remained so for 53 years until Walter's death on April 26, 2001. A housewife and homemaker for her husband and nine children who she loved, Helen also enjoyed her soap operas and bowling. She leaves her children and spouses, Walter J. Burbo Jr. of St. George, Ann Terry of Milton, Mary Lou and Allen Barr, and Joan and David Wood, all of Burlington, Michael N. Burbo of Winooski, Nancy and Carl Terry Jr. of Milton, David C. Burbo of Burlington, Mark Burbo and his companion, Missy, of Milton, and Judith Ann and Edmond Parent of Burlington; 22 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; one sister, Ann Greene; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Along with her husband, Walter Sr., she was predeceased by a son-in-law, Rodney Gene Terry Sr.; a grandson, Rodney Gene Terry Jr.; her brother, David Lister; brother-in-law, Gerald Greene; and a daughter-in-law, Sharon Burbo. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Co-Cathedral, with interment following in Lakeview Cemetery. Visiting hours are on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Elmwood-Meunier Funeral Home, 97 Elmwood Ave. The family will be hosting a gathering after the funeral at the V.F.W., Post 91 in Colchester. All wishing to contribute a covered dish, please contact cousin Dorothy Talcot at 413-207-7772. We wish to extend a sincere thank you to Dr. Christopher Hebert and staff, and Dr. Christopher Terrien and staff. Those wishing to make a memorial donation, in lieu of flowers, may do so to either the Burlington Police Department or the Burlington Fire Department Rescue Squad for their valiant efforts.
