Helen May (Murray) DeVoid Obituary
Helen May (Murray) DeVoid

Shelburne - Helen May (Murray) DeVoid, age 94, passed away peacefully on January 26th, 2018 at The Arbors in Shelburne. Helen was born March 4, 1923 to Henry and Ruth (Burritt) Murray in Hinesburg, VT. Helen attended Hinesburg High School and then went on to earn her degree in Dietetics from The University of Vermont and spent time at Johns Hopkins. She began her career at the formerly known Fletcher Allen and Fanny Allen hospitals as a registered dietician.

On June 18, 1950 Helen and Carroll 'Deac' DeVoid were married at the United Church of Hinesburg and were happily married for 63 years. Helen was dedicated to her community and was a part of several organizations including the Hinesburg United Woman's Union Group, Embroiders Guild of New England, Hinesburg Order of the Eastern Stars and the Hinesburg PTA. Through the years Helen became known as an accomplished baker, cook, and seamstress and was involved in many forms of needle art. A birthday or holiday never went unnoticed by Helen and her generosity of spirit will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, always attentive to the needs of those around her.

Helen is survived by her sister Shirley (Murray) O'Brien, daughters Martha Kapaun (husband Kenneth) and Melanie Bishop, daughter-in-law Beth DeVoid, granddaughters Jessica Hinds (husband Todd) and Nicole DeVoid and greatgrandchildren Jackson, Xander and Avery along with several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Helen is predeceased by her husband Carroll DeVoid, son Douglas DeVoid, elder sister Lois (Murray) Lantman.

A memorial service will be held February 24th at 11 o'clock in the morning at the Hinesburg United Church in Hinesburg with a reception to follow at the Church Parish Hall. A family burial will take place in the spring. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the United Church of Hinesburg, or in memory of Helen DeVoid.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Arbors for their devoted care of Helen in her last few years of life.

Gifford Funeral Home, 22 Depot Street, Richmond, VT is in charge of the arrangements.
