JOSEPH E. ROTUNDA JR. JERICHO, VT/DELAND, FLA - Joseph E. Rotunda Jr., 75, of Jericho died on Friday, Jan. 15, 2010, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Colchester on March 8, 1934, the son of Joseph E. Sr. and Glenna (Lafayette) Rotunda. Joe drove a truck for Vermont Fruit for many years prior to owning Joe's Snack Bar for over 50 years, employing grandchildren and other family members over the years. He also touched many families in the Jericho area by being the first employer of their children. He was very proud to have a children's book written about him (Where Does Joe Go?) Children from all over the country brought their book to Joe for him to autograph which he did gladly. He was passionate about all of his homemade cooking for the Snack Bar. He enjoyed the off season in Florida for the past 25 years, attending the Daytona 500 on the infield, and taking old TONKA trucks and spending timeless hours restoring them. Joe was very proud of his grandchildren and took great pleasure in spending time with them. He is survived by his wife Marilyn Kozlowski Rotunda of Jericho; two children, Joseph E. III and wife Kim Rotunda of Underhill, Kim Brooks and fiancé Brent Osborne of Essex; four grandchildren, Joseph "Jay" Rotunda IV, Carrie Rotunda, Amanda Rotunda and Justin Brooks; the mother of his children, Janice Gordon of Essex; one brother, Thomas Rotunda and wife Barb of Venice, Fla.; two sisters, Pauline Torres and companion Al Lafreniere of Deland, Fla. and Bette Rhye and husband Jack of Newport, Vt.; several cousins, nieces and nephews. He also leaves his close friends, The Jericho Rat Pack, Ralph, Pea Soup, Shambo, Peterson, Kenny and George. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2010, at 11 a.m. in the Essex Alliance Church in Essex Center. Burial will be in the spring in Pleasant View Cemetery. Those who wish may make contributions in his memory to the Charity of one's choice. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Ready Funeral and Cremation Service Mountain View Chapel, 68 Pinecrest Dr., Essex Junction. Did not get quite enough time to get to know Joe, but enjoyed the short time I spent with him. I will always remember the connection he and my son had. They seemed to be drawn to each other, but I guess he had that effect on most people he met. I send my thoughts and prayers to Teenie and the rest of the family.

I agree with all of the wonderful statements made on this guest book. It's nice to have a man that you could look up to- a man I felt so comfortable talking to. Joe and I had a communication going like no other. No matter what I needed, he was always there. I was very blessed you see, Joe was my brother.

At this time of your sad loss, the Hahn family is recalling many wonderful visits to Joe's Snack Bar. For us, and for me particularly, it was such a wonderful treat to hobnob with other Jericho folks and enjoy a pig-in-a-blanket (my favorite) or any number of comfort foods after many a town event. We remember, and appreciate the friendly, home-town hospitality of the Rotunda family through all the years. My personal condolences to all of you. Sincerely,
Stephanie Hahn

Sending love & prayers on behalf of the LaBrie family. Our memories of Joe go back to the early years in the store & then the small cremee stand that began the Joe's Snack Bar legacy. Upon returning to Jericho in 1986, we saw many changes. But, Joe was still there, serving generous portions of great food & friendship to the community.

May God comfort all who knew & loved him.

My deepeast sympathies to the Rotunda family. My sister, my friends and I would often go to Joe's during the summer--especially once we had our driver's licenses. After our softball games in the summer, the team would often go to Joe's. I have many fond memories of those days. Thank you! circa 1980

Teeny and Family Members:

We offer our deepest sympathy to all of you upon Joe's recent passing. For years, you've fed the citizens of our Vermont communities and also lucky out-of-state passers-by. You helped keep us cool in summer, and you employed our teenage daughters and son. You're now a community institution, and we hope some way will be found for Joe's Snack Bar to continue. If so, we hope the name on the sign will never change.

It's been many years, but as a child in Vermont, I can recall going to Joe's Snack Bar, where my Uncle Joe would treat us to anything we wanted. Kind of like the Vermont, ice cream equivalent to Willy Wonka and the Chocolate factory; Simply wonderful. Uncle Joe will be missed. My thoughts go out to all of you in this time of sorrow.

Dear Teeny,

I'm so sorry to hear of your great loss.

My Dad (Jerry Yergeau), considered Joe his best friend for nearly 30 years. He always spoke with such great affection for Joe! I'm so grateful that my Mom and Dad had such a warm and loving relationship with both of you!

I take comfort knowing that Joe and Jerry are together once again! Can't you just hear the two of them carrying on?!

God Bless.

Marilyn....when in VT I always stopped in at the Snack Bar to see you, find out what was happening around there, to say "Hi Joe" & to eat. I think of you so often - always telling friends all over the country that Joe's Snack Bar had the best French Fries in the World. Certainly the Snack Bar made it's impression on many people, employed many kids in the area & became "famous". Please accept my condolences to the entire family. Life will be different for you, but you are strong & life will get as normal as it can under the circumstances. Love you, Maureen M. Cross
