Katherine V. Donahue Obituary
Katherine V. Donahue

Colchester - On Wednesday, January 9, 2019 Katie Donahue, 53, passed away at the McClure Respite House in Colchester, VT, with her mother, aunt and uncle, and best friend at her side.

Katie was born February 18, 1965 in Pittsfield, MA to Victile Capeless Donahue and the late Paul Vincent Donahue. She graduated from St. Joseph's High School, and in 1988 graduated with honors from Assumption College. In 1994 she received her degree in speech language pathology from the University of Vermont, then returned to UVM to complete a degree of advanced study in Special Education in 2006.

After graduating from UVM, Katie settled down in Burlington where she lived for 25 years. After receiving her degree in 1994, Katie worked for the Shelburne school district for 10 years and then worked in both South Burlington and Burlington. As well, she continued to work as an academic coach for college students with disabilities. Katie was an active member of St. Anthony Parish where she continued to share her beautiful singing talent in the choir.

As a strong and caring advocate for her friends and students, she was able to see the value and potential in people that were often overlooked by others. Her close circle of friends came from a variety of backgrounds and interests. She truly embraced the idea we are all unique and wonderful, and we all have a special place in the world. Katie was a voracious reader and could talk about nearly any topic her students were studying.

We are grateful to her good friends and caregivers Muriel Hall, Chris McClelland, Aaron McClelland and Crystal Hall, Miss Ellie" and Paul Taylor who assisted her with transportation, dog walking, errands and home care.

Katie was predeceased by her father Paul; and her guide dogs Urban and Jason. She is survived by her mother, Victile; her brothers Paul and Ian; her guide dog and companion Derry; and her best friend Jean Haverstick. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law; and aunts and uncles, including Drs. Mark and Eleanor Capeless of Charlotte VT whose generosity and love for Katie was a true blessing.

A funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, January 19 at 11 AM, at St. Anthony Church, 305 Flynn Ave. in Burlington VT with a reception to follow. A second service will be held in the spring at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Pittsfield, MA.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Guiding Eyes for the Blind, or the McClure Respite House.
