STAFF SERGEANT LASZLO MYRON AGOSTON BURLINGTON - Staff Sergeant Laszlo Myron Agoston, United States Army, retired, passed away on June 22, 2009, following a brief illness. Laz was born in Haag/Obb, West Germany on Jan. 13, 1947, the son of Hungarian refugees Gabor Agoston and Veronika Anna Agoston, nee Somogyi deKatay. His early years were spent in the camps for displaced persons from World War II. In 1950, Laz and his mom emigrated to the United States. He was raised in New York City. Laz joined the service in 1965, first stationed in Vietnam and then in Thailand. After discharge he gravitated up to Vermont, working in the ski areas and studying at the University of Vermont. Since then the Burlington area had been his home. Laz traveled widely and often. He was a bit of a linguist, a voracious reader and held within him the soul of a warrior. Laszlo was a biker, a martial artist, a hunter and a fisherman. He proudly served in the Vermont National Guard and worked tirelessly on veterans affairs. He was often charming and often blunt - a self described "different kind of cat." He'll be missed by his many friends in the area. Services will be at the Ready Funeral Home, 261 Shelburne Road, Burlington. Burial will be at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Randolph Center, Vt. The time and date are yet to be announced.
