Paul Dillon Obituary
Philadelphia - Paul Dillon, acclaimed musician and artist, died unexpectedly at his home in Philadelphia September 25. He was 75. Paul is survived by his wife Stephanie; son Jesse and his wife Erica Kelley of Brooklyn, NY; his brother David of East Albany, VT; his sister Mary of Rochester, NY, and two beloved grand children. His father Peter and mother Ruth Searles Dillon predeceased him.
Born in Newport, Paul grew up in Rutland and Burlington, attending Rutland High School and graduating from Burlington High. A renowned drummer, Paul was in a number of successful local bands and following college at St. Michael's joined Peter Rowan, David Grisman and John Nagy to form Earth Opera, a Boston based band that recorded and toured under the Elektra Music label.
During his music career, Paul was named one of America's most promising jazz drummers. In addition to his career with Earth Opera, he performed as a studio drummer on a number of well-known albums by various musicians and bands in both New York and Los Angeles.
While playing music, he worked tirelessly on his art, eventually devoting his life to painting. Paul's work is in numerous museums and prominent private collections both in the United States and internationally.
His family has scheduled a private memorial service.

I send my deepest sympathy to Paul's family. I remember him well from the days of being in the BHS band. He created the neatest 'hesitation' in the drum beat that made it unique. It changed the whole sound of the drums while we were marching to just the drums after playing a music piece during parades. I am sure it was never duplicated.
It is so nice to read how much he accomplished in his lifetime. All of us who knew him are very proud.
