Paul W Mitchell

Age: 92 • Essex

Paul W. Mitchell, 92, died peacefully of Natural Causes on Monday, November 13 at Mansfield Place Retirement and Assisted Living Facility in Essex, VT.

Paul was born in Stoneham, MA on September 13, 1925, the son of Herbert and Mabel (Cooper) Mitchell, one of seven children and a proud graduate of the Woburn, MA school system.

He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, nephew, cousin, Godfather, brother Knight of Columbus and friend. We all knew him as someone special, the life of the party and quite often the Master of Ceremonies.

Paul, with his beloved wife Pauline, moved from Franklin, NH to South Burlington, Vermont in 1953 and later moved to the New North End of Burlington where they raised a family of five children until returning to South Burlington in retirement. He served his country with pride in the US Navy during World War II from 1943-1946 and was honorably discharged as Boatswains Mate Second Class. He was employed at Vermont Cleansing for 20 years until it closed. He sold life insurance for Prudential, owned a gas station and convenience store "Paul's U-save," performed bookkeeping and office management for B&B Hot Water Tanks followed by Purchasing for Blodgett Supply/Vermont Appliance until retiring. He was an active member of St. Mark's Catholic Church in Burlington as well as St. John Vianney Catholic Church in South Burlington and a long standing member of the Knights of Columbus, holding most offices in the organization over the course of many years.

He was predeceased by his devoted wife of sixty years, Pauline and by his daughter Suzanne; is survived by his children: Kathleen Beach, Thomas and wife Jill Mitchell; Lisa and husband David Delibac; Patrick and wife Sybil Mitchell. He is remembered fondly by grandchildren: Avery Beach and wife Ashley and Lauren Beach; Ladd and Marla Cline; Haley Christie and husband Ben, Elizabeth, Corinne, Rachel, and Maureen Mitchell. Paul also leaves behind a sister Pauline and husband Jack Quinlan; sisters-in-law Rita Hebert, Wanda Hebert, Jeannie Hebert as well as many nieces, nephews and close friends throughout Vermont, New England and across the country.

Paul's family wishes to offer their special thanks to Dr. Eugene Moore, the caring Staff and residents of Mansfield Place Retirement and Assisted Living Facility, both the Hospice Nursing and Assistive Care Staff of Bayada Home Health Care and Armistead Caregiver Services.

In lieu of flowers and in Paul's memory, please make contributions to Our Lady of Providence c/o Bea Hatin, Activities Coordinator, 47 West Spring Street, Winooski, VT 05404 or The Knights of Columbus Scholarship Fund at: Department of Scholarships Knights of Columbus, PO Box 1670, New Haven, CT 06507-0901
