Ralph W. Abeling

Essex - Ralph W. Abeling, 83, of Essex died peacefully, at home, December 4th 2018 of Pulmonary Fibrosis. He was born in Ilion, NY. On July 31, 1935, the son of Bernard and Julia Abeling.

Ralph graduated from Ilion High School in Ilion, NY, class of 1954. He received an Associate Degree from The Mohawk Valley Technical Institute and did further studies at St. Micheals College in conjunction with Maris College. Ralph proudly served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956.

Surviving Ralph are his wife of 58 years Louise and sons Brian Abeling of Albany, NY and Michael Abeling and Stephanie Lamoge of Jericho, VT. Other surviving relatives include his soul granddaughter Samantha Abeling of Manchester New Hampshire as well as several brothers and sisters; Diane and Russel Bouck, Dale and Pamala Abeling, David and Sheila Ableing and Linda Roberts.

Ralph retired in 1990 after 24 years from IBM of Essex jct. With partner Tomas Ryan he enjoyed a variety of handy man activities. Among his varied activities as dedicated member of the St. Pius X Church community were; Lay minister, Lector, Parish Council member. He was a long term member of the Knights of Columbus, Bishop Rice Counsel 2946 of Essex.

Services to community included member ship on the town of Essex reginal Planning Commission.

Ralph's passion for handball with many friends culminated with his being elected President of the VT State Handball Association.

The family wishes to recognize the very caring compassion of the University of VT Home Health & Hospice.

There will be no visiting hours.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at St Pius X church at 11:00 am on Friday, December 7th 2018 followed by a funeral luncheon. Burial will occur in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations are being accepted, in Ralphs honor, to the charities of your choice.
