Obituary Condolences

RICHARD NARKEWICZ, MD - BURLINGTON - Richard Narkewicz, MD died on Feb. 21, 2012, following a long battle with complications from cancer therapy. Born in Walpole, N.H. in 1934, he attended St. Michael's College in Winooski and received his MD from UVM in 1960. Following a residency in pediatrics in San Antonio, Texas, he was a pediatrician in the Air Force in Rome, N.Y. He moved to Burlington in 1966 and started a solo pediatric practice. He later joined with James Stackpole and Jack Murray and founded Timberlane Pediatrics. He was a tireless advocate for children in the American Academy of Pediatrics and was elected President of that organization in 1989. He retired in 1997 to spend more time with his wife and family. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carol; three children, Michael Narkewicz, MD, of Golden, Colo., Brian Narkewicz of Rutland, and Karen Hoff, MD, of Albany, N.Y.; and nine grandchildren.
