- Richard R. Ackel Jr.of North Windham, CT & Winooski, VT left this earthly world on August 31, 2018 after a courageous battle with cancer to join his heavenly Father and our dearly departed. He was born in Burlington, VT to Richard R. Sr. and Jacqueline G. (Hatin) Ackel on June 14, 1959.

He graduated from Winooski High School and the Center for Technology Essex Culinary School with several awards for excellence. Rick was an accomplished chef and owner of Casa Romano Restaurant for several years. He was a member of the Colchester Center Fire Department in Colchester, VT. He was a self-made mechanic and could tear down and rebuild a car engine easily. Over the last several years he lived and worked in Connecticut at ADT, Wells Fargo Armored Car and Shark Cycle. In recent years he did automotive sales at Gates GMC Buick Nissan. He was also a member of The Mad River Club in Redfield, NY. He was a caring man and soul to many.

Rick leaves his parents Richard and Jacqueline Ackel of Colchester, VT; his son's Brandon and wife Meredith of Williston, VT; Richard Joseph and wife Evgenyia of Essex Junction, VT; Daniel of Ashford, CT. He also leaves Heidi Miller his former wife/mother to Brandon and Richard Joseph of Daleville, VA; Daniel's brother and sister Corey and Meghan Pelletier of Ashford, CT; his partner Dawn Mattison Conklin and her two son's Ben and Luke Conklin of Ashford, CT; his sister Deb and husband Tim of Colchester, VT; brother Randy and wife Denise of Burlington, VT; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

While battling cancer he would often say he was "In it to win it, never give up and never give in". Cancer did not win this battle, he may not be with us in physical form, he will be, however, with us spiritually and in our hearts forever.
