RICHARD SHAWN SCOTT II - BRIDPORT - Before sunrise on the morning of Sept. 22, 2013, Richard Scott II, beloved Husband, Brother, Father, and Grandson, while embraced in loving arms; left his earthly home to be with our Lord and Savior for eternity. Richard was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor in August 2011. As those surrounding him felt devastation, he exhibited his full faith in God, by accepting his mortality, and embracing eternal life. As he aggressively fought the disease so that he could continue to be the loving husband, devoted father and testimony that he was, his family and friends took solace in his unwavering faith. Richard believed completely that God would use him and his affliction for His glory, and that he was the lucky one. He is survived by his loving wife of 10 years, Erin, who began her journey into adulthood side by side with the love of her life. They went on to create Miley and Judah, true reflections right down to the mischievous smile; his parents, Rick and Robin; brothers and sisters, Amanda Fleming, Elizabeth, Samuel and Nicholas; paternal grandmother, JoAnne Scott; niece, Analise; loving aunts, uncles and cousins; and Erin's family, the Stems. Richard was born June 6, 1981, in Virginia Beach, Va., and fulfilled the role of first born with ease. Moving often throughout his childhood, he and his family lived in Virginia, North Carolina, Florida and Vermont, but he never took long to become integrated into his school and community. The class clown graduated from Bellows Free Academy in Fairfax, and went on to achieve certification for graphic arts and animation in Raleigh, N.C. Ultimately, he came home to Vermont and joined the family business, System Integrators, where he worked in system design, user interface creation and systems programming. His talent and charm led to him becoming vice president and a partner in the business. To co-workers and clients alike he was not just a professional, but also a friend. Richard has lived in Bridport for 12 years, and has left his mark on the community with many friendships and through school activities and other civic projects. Richards's faith was central to his life, he was a passionate Calvinist, a member of the Middletown Springs Community Church, and he found his way to be a true disciple of Christ. Prior to that, as a member of the Bridport Congregational Church, he participated in mission trips and served joyfully in several capacities, including an Elder and youth group leader, becoming a friend and lifelong mentor to many of the then teens, now adults. Calling hours are today, Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Brown-McClay Funeral Home in Vergennes. A memorial service will be held at the Bridport Congregational Church at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2013, immediately followed by a light luncheon reception in the Church Vestry. Richard loved his family and was most concerned that he would not be here to protect them and raise them. In lieu of flowers, please consider honoring Richard with a donation to the children's trust fund, send donations to: "Miley Lu and Judah Shepherd Scott Education Trust," c/o Middlebury National Bank, POB 189, Middlebury, VT 05753.
