Willaim (Bill) Howard Brooks

Age: 87 • Colchester

William (Bill) Howard Brooks passed away peacefully on Monday, September 25th, 2017 at the age of 87. He was born in Montgomery, Vermont, the son of William and Clara Brooks.

Bill was hard working self-starter who always found time for others and enjoyed a good laugh or pranks to lighten the moment. When he was 22 years old, he was drafted by the army to serve in the Korean War as a Combat Engineer and was also stationed in Japan.

Bill is best known as a gifted carpenter. He built his first home in Essex Junction where his sons Gary and Jeffrey were raised. He worked for General Electric in Burlington, Vermont for fifteen years. He also worked for IBM, in Essex Junction, until his retirement in 1992.

Bill was a devoted husband of 32 years to Theresa (Boivin) Gokey. Both Bill and Theresa experienced life to the fullest, loved travel, country music and sharing time with friends and family. Following Theresa's death, Bill spent time between Florida and Vermont. He met Marion Knowles, as friendships do grow, she became his most valued companion.

Bill is survived by his son, Gary Brooks and partner Penny of Colchester, his son Jeff Brooks and wife Peggy of Colchester, his granddaughter Casey Brooks and wife Heather of Morrisville, his grandson Kyle Brooks of Phoenix, AZ, his granddaughter Kelly Ziner and husband Dan of Charleston, SC. He is survived by his stepchildren, Wayne, Bryon and Sue Gokey; and Theresa's grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife Theresa, he was predeceased by his stepson Robert Gokey, and his older brother, Lincoln. He is survived by his first wife and mother of his children, Helen (Schmaldienst) Tarte, his brother Hilton and wife Shirley, and their children.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11 am, Wednesday, October 4th, at LaVigne Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 132 Main Street, Winooski. Burial will follow at St. Ann's Cemetery in Milton, with a reception to follow. Condolences may be shared at www.lavignefuneral home.com
