JOYCE KNEPPER Obituary
JOYCE KNEPPER - JOHNSON - Joyce Knepper, 83, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Aug. 15, 2014, in The Manor in Morrisville where she received much loving care during her stay. She was born Dec. 28, 1930, in Northampton, N.Y., the daughter of Ivan and Marion Hunter Stanton. The family moved to Johnson in 1941 where she graduated from Johnson High School in 1948, and from Eastern Nazarene College in 1952. She married Ralph Herbert Knepper on Aug. 18, 1950. They started out in Pennsylvania where Joyce taught high school English in Taylor Township. In 1957, they worked with Navajos in New Mexico under the Bureau of Indian Affairs and later with the Church of the Nazarene. They returned to Vermont in 1968. Joyce taught in Eden Elementary School and, with Ralph, pastored the St. Albans Church of the Nazarene. They served with Youth with a Mission in Hawaii, California and New Brunswick. The Knepper's returned to Vermont in 1998 to retire. They volunteered at The Manor, taught classes at Teen Challenge, counseled many people and were associates in Lamoille Valley Church of the Nazarene where Joyce served in many capacities. She loved people, gardening, canning, sewing, reading and getting bargains. Joyce is survived by her husband of nearly 64 years, Ralph Herbert Knepper; their children, Carol Allen (Arnold) of Spokane, Wash., Christine Manchester (Alan) of Johnson, Cheryl DeKoning (Nick) in Uganda, and Ivan Knepper (Cheryl) of Jacksonville, Ark.; 11 grandchildren, A.J. Allen (Kim), Amiee Lambright (Tim), Amani Hanson (Aaron), Aaron Allen (Anna), Jeremy Manchester (Megan), Jessica Manchester, Jasmine Labuen (Chris), Erika Clark (Matt), Nick DeKoning Jr., Jennifer Wells (Kevin), and Kelly Grundy (James); 20 great-grandchildren; and brother, Emlon Stanton of North Dakota. A funeral service and calling hours were held on Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2014, at the Lamoille Valley Church of the Nazarene, followed by interment in Evergreen Ledge Cemetery. White-Fiess Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Joyce's memory may be made to Compassionate Ministries, Lamoille Valley Church of the Nazarene, PO Box 384, Johnson, VT 05656.
