Obituary Condolences

PHILIP M. JOHNSON - BURLINGTON - Philip M. Johnson, 74, of Burlington, formerly of Taftsville, died on Aug. 19, 2014, in Fletcher Allen Health Care, following a courageous battle with cancer. Philip "Phil" was born in Boston, Mass., on Feb. 22, 1940, to Philip E. and Catherine (Martin) Johnson. Phil was a graduate of Lawrence Academy, Groton, Mass.; Colgate University, Hamilton, N.Y.; Union University Albany Law School, Albany, N.Y., and the National College of Trial Advocacy. He practiced law for over 35 years, holding many honorable positions including in the Vermont Supreme Court. Phil was very active and involved in the Woodstock community for the Town, School and Ottauquechee Health Center. He was a recipient of the Rotary Paul Harris Fellowship. Phil is survived by his devoted and caring wife, Sara 'Sally' Dana. Phil was predeceased by his loving wife, Carolyn Moxley Johnson. Phil is also survived by his stepchildren, Jerri Benjamin, Jennifer Brown, James Ellis and Jill Dole; and their spouses, children, and grandchildren. Phil also leaves his daughters, Jennifer Calder, and Melissa Johnson Wilson, and their spouses and children. Phil had a deep affection for his extended family, community, and friends. He had a sincere sense of giving back and assisting all to the best of his ability. He will be missed and will never be forgotten. Funeral arrangements are by Cabot Funeral Directors, Woodstock, Vt. A service will be held Friday, Aug. 29, 2014, at 10 a.m. at the UU Church in Woodstock, Vt. Phil's family would like to express their sincere gratitude to all the doctors, nurses and staff at FAHC who were so kind, caring, loving and attentive to him.
