PAUL FREDERICK PAPE, JR. "FRED" MORETOWN - Fred Pape died on Aug. 2 at his cherished home, Misty Hilltop, in Moretown, surrounded by his gardens, orchard, hiking trails, and incredible vistas. Fred was born in New York City on June 12 1932, only child to Paul Frederick Pape and Fay Hempstead Pape, and raised in Scarsdale, N.Y. He was a graduate of Wesleyan University and Harvard Business School. Fred worked and played for many years on Wall Street. His career as an investment banker included years at Blythe and Co., Merrill Lynch and Drexel Burnham. Fred had many passions throughout his life. His days on Wall Street provided him weekends on his farm in Millbrook, N.Y., where he raised black angus cattle and thoroughbred race horses. Sailing was another passion. Antigua, BWI was always a very special place to him and for the last 20 years he visited friends and his beloved schooner, Turanna, as often as possible, including two trips in 2010. Fred has been an avid lifelong skier, mountain climber, rock climber, gardener, real estate investor, renovator, and beautifier. In most recent years, he concentrated his talents in Vermont, notably the white marbled, historic Chittenden Trust Company building at 131 Church Street on Burlington's Church Street Marketplace. His efforts restored this property to it's original prominence earning recognition and appreciation from the community. Fred will be missed by his many friends; his wife, Stephanie Sedlmayr Pape; his four children, Paul Frederick Pape lll of Bridgeport, Conn., Todd Alexander Pape of Evanston Ill., Lisa Pape Tarr of Sanford, Fla., and Alexander Hempstead Pape of Chang Mai, Thailand; and his step daughter, Thea da Empoli of Florence, Italy . Fred is the proud grandfather of Elizabeth Pape Tarr, Aiden Alexander Pape and Chance Nelson Pape. In lieu of flowers please send contributions to The Salvation Army.

Fred Pape gave me one of the best years of my life at Altamont farm. I was a college friend of Alex Pape and the four of us ran rampart through Millbrook that year. It was such a pleasure to see him at the weekends.

Stephany, I just want to tell you how much I am going to miss Fred... he was a strong influence in the success of the Presidential Life Insurance Company and appreciated everthing he has done for the company that he served so brilliantly over the many years as a Director.
