ANGELO J. MARTIN BURLINGTON - Monday, Jan. 31 marked the passing of an incredible person, friend and confidant. Angelo James Martin, known to the world as A.J., was a friend to an army of people. Born in Barcelona, Spain on Oct. 6, 1959, and adopted by Mr. Albert James Martin and Mrs. Frances Chrapowicki Martin. After his earliest years were spent in Pennsylvania, the family moved to Oakland, Calif., where A.J. spent his elementary and middle school years. Later, his family moved to Florida, where A.J. spent his high school years in military school. A.J., however, never finished high school in his haste to join the military. After spending his early years as a man in the army, he was honorably discharged and returned to the US to live in Florida. After experiencing the wonders of Jerry Garcia, he headed out for an extended tour with the Grateful Dead. During three years of being a force of positivity in the lives of thousands, A.J. had two children with Lara Hoyt, of the names Sarah Anne MaCleod and Cody James MaCleod. After moving to Vermont in 1995, he eventually married Angel Lee, and fathered a third child, Keighla Martin. A.J. walked his dog first thing every morning, as an early riser he always embraced the day. He was a man who refused to prejudge people even as others, at times, misunderstood him. Always there to help any who had fallen, A.J. was a kind generous man, who people flocked to. Because of this, A.J. had an amazingly diverse mass of friends from all walks of life. A.J. will be remembered by thousands as an honest trustworthy person, who could always keep the personal quiet and be relied on for sagely, straight forward, thoughtful advice. In the end, he was watched over by friends and his current girlfriend of two years, Ellie Joy Richardson. He will be sorely missed by countless individuals, friends, and lovers. The memorial will be held Wednesday, Feb. 9 at 2 p.m. at Elmwood-Meunier Funeral Home, 97 Elmwood Ave. The burial will be held on Thursday, Feb. 10 at 1:30 p.m. at Lakeside Cemetery. All donations can be made to Elmwood-Meunier Funeral Home. There will be a fundraising memorial of A.J.'s life at Slidebrook Lodge in Warren on Tuesday and Wednesday night.
