Bob was my greatest asset when I was Chairman of the Physics Department. He helped me bring the modern ideas, computers and new ideas to UVM. I will miss him very much.

On a few occasions as an Armistead Caregiver, I had the privilege of caring for Bob in his home, and taking him outside in his wheel chair. Loss is always difficult whether expected or not. My condolences to you Jeanne, my fellow quilter.

Bob was the best teacher I ever worked with. His inspirations to me and our students are some of my fondest memories at UVM. My condolences to Jeanne and the family.

I remember Bob when I was a UVM graduate student in physics over 1968-1974 and also talked with him briefly when I was on the physics faculty there over 2005-2007. He was gracious to a fault, encouraged me in my studies when physics was located still in Williams Science Hall. He and Jeanne extended the hospitality of their house off Spear Street one winter night when a snow storm made it too hazardous for me on the daily commute to drive home to New Haven, Vt. My sincerest condolences to the family.

Hopefully Bob will always be remembered as I do, as an outstanding teacher and mentor who always showed a genuine desire to share his knowledge with others. He ushered me into an enjoyable and challenging twenty year career in the UVM Physics Department during which I always tried to carry on his tradition of kindly helping others to learn. I continued to learn new things from him right up until his retirement and will always consider him an example of collegiality.
Thanks!

Bob was a model for a "real professor", who always put the welfare of students first. He was an inspiration to colleagues and students at all levels.
His family is in my thoughts, and I wish them well, knowing all the good work Bob accomplished.
