We just heard about Adrien's death. We met him at the Plymouth Art Show in NH and have purchased many wonderful pieces over the years. He was such a lovely person. We are just devastated to hear this. Our thoughts are with the family. Gone too soon.

In any organization, a sad duty is to receive notification of the passing of a member. The comforting part of this duty is taking time to reflect on the happy memories of these accomplished people. Through our shared love of the arts we might not otherwise get to know them. The Wooden Horse Arts Guild was fortunate to know Adrien “Yellow” as an artist and a friend. We offer our condolences to you, Pat, and to all of Adrien's family.
Adrien “Yellow”, I heard someone say once that “Adrien is an artist's artist!” I don't exactly know what that means, but he certainly was an artist for the Wooden Horse Arts Guild. He had done a couple of talks for a WHAG meeting about how to encourage people to recognize your work. And, the one line I remember is, “Every day you must make sure that you tell at least one person about your work and be sure that you live up to your own expectations!”
Adrien is the reason I became the president of the Wooden Horse Arts Guild. We were in need of a leader. We were in need of good artists and we were in need of people like Adrien. He was one of our first members and dedicated to the WHAG from the start. His web page was the first one up on the Wooden Horse Arts Guild website. I just hope that we have lived up to his expectations. We will miss him terribly and miss his always pleasant conversations with us. His work is still alive and we will probably see it wherever we go for many years. That wonderful “Yellow” will always remind us of our good and gentle friend. He has lived up to his own expectations!

Our condolences go out to Pat and the Patenaude Family.
I met Adrien in our senior year (1970) at NCUHS. We shared an interest in Mechanical Drafting and became good friends. I was new to the school and he took his time to make me feel comfortable by introducing me to his friends and family.
Our careers took us in different directions throughout the years and we didn't meet up again until 1990. It was NCUHS's 20th anniversary reunion. It was then I had the honor of introducing my wife Margie to my friend Adrien.
Even though 20 years had gone by, Adrien was still that happy, optimistic, upbeat person I met in mechanical drafting class.
In 2011 , Margie and I surprised Adrien by showing up at his Newport gallery. He took us on a tour and proudly showed us his beautiful artwork. We had the privilege to purchase one of his works that will be cherished always. We had lunch and caught up on our lives.
This month, May 2014, after hearing from Adrien, Margie and I planned to visit him and Pat but unfortunately, God called Adrien before we could be with him.
We arrived for the church mass and attended a luncheon that Pat and the Patenaude Family had prepared to honor the Life of Adrien "Yellow" Patenaude. It was beautiful seeing photographs and listening to friends and family remembering the good times everyone shared with him.
My friend Adrien will be missed but never forgotten.
I know now that whenever I see a Rainbow, the colors will be more vivid- especially the "Yellow".
God bless you Adrien.

What an inspiration Adrien was wherever he was...I met him many years ago, in Sanford maine, when he was starting and growing as an artist. He jumped in and tried everything with hugh gusto. He was so generous with his work, his spirit, his ideas, his enthusiasm and his love of life.
My heart hurts for those who have lost that beautiful "yellow" sun in their lives....But all of our lives have been changed for the better because of Adrien...He will always be with us in his work and in our hearts. Much Love

To Christine, Gary, Marcel and all of the Patenaude family: Our memories of Adrien go back to the 1960's when Adrien, a teenager at the time, mowed the lawn for our grandfather, Lud Olofsson. He not only mowed the lawn, but often kept our grandfather company sharing meals and talks after our grandmother passed away. Our grandfather and all of our family thought the world of Adrien and were always happy when he visited. He truly was a very gentle, nice person. We were happy to see him again a couple of years ago in his Newport studio and were deeply saddened to hear of your loss. It's truly a loss for all who knew him. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Janice (Olofsson) McNamara, Gale McNamara and Family

I'm deeply saddened to hear of Adrien's passing. As neighbors I've such fond memories of growing up together. What I do recall is that Adrien was such a kind person. I recall asking him to draw things so we could marvel at his skills. I'm glad he had the courage to pursue his passion throughout his life and share his gift with all. I will forever remember Adrien for his warmth, creativity and beautiful spirit. His landscapes have inspired and moved me for years. I treasure his work and his memory.
Several years ago, Adrien painted my grandparent's barn, which had been sold out of the family. That barn was a sacred space for him and I immediately connected with the piece. It now hangs in my home, after he generously offered it to me at the only price I could afford. He captured a place that is a deep part of myself and my family. He always showed me warmth and love in my visits to his studio. He made the world a better place.

To Adrien's family: We met Adrien back in the early 1980s when someone referred us to him for a logo for our business. We so enjoyed talking to him and when he completed a logo for us to consider, we were overwhelmed by the depth of his talent. When I presented marketing materials to potential clients with Adrien's artwork, I never failed to obtain a new client and to have them compliment me on the quality of my logo and materials. I am still using that logo today! We were fortunate to have had the opportunity to meet and interact with such a fine and talented person.

For Pat and Adrien's family. My deepest sympathies and prayers go out to each of you. I was truly blessed to have Adrien as a close friend. Collaborating with him on Noah's Song was one of the most rewarding experiences in my life. I couldn't have picked a better artist or have a better "best buddy."
ODE TO YELLOW
In his paintings he places some yellow –
It tends to brighten, yet makes things mellow.
He does not forsake the reds and blues
That he observes in many views.
Purple and green find their place –
Many are the hues he does embrace.

I moved to Vermont in late 2012. When I said was an artist, everyone told me. "You've really got to meet Adrien Yellow."
Everyone knew him, liked him, and loved him.
I enjoyed running into him during my frequent trips to Newport Natural. We talked about painting - a lot - and I was looking forward to having him visit me to see what was happening on my easel.
Even after being here barely 18 months, I know his passing will leave a large empty space in the local landscape.
He will not be forgotten.
His art is everywhere. One of his works is in my house. He did so much, lived a full life, and quietly inspired many, many people.
If a person's worth can be measured by how many people will remember him, then Adrien was one of the best of us.
