Jack Stokes Notice

Stokes Jack Frederick 23rd August 1920 - 15th March 2016

Jack died aged 95, peacefully at his home in Wellington, New Zealand.
Born in East London he joined the TA in 1938. At the age of 19 he was evacuated from Dunkirk. He was soon identified as officer material and ended his military career as a Major with
The Territorial Decoration.
Jack started a boat business in
Mile End Road, London and
Burnham on Crouch and in 1971 the business was moved to Stanton. At its height Shetland Boats were making
12 boats a day and were presented the Queens Award to Industry.
He also found time to run Chelmsford Car Auctions. Both businesses were sold and Jack moved to New Zealand
to retire in 1986.
Jack was a firm but fair businessman. He was a generous man and helped countless people. He achieved so much in his life and his three children Maggie, Alix and Jack will miss him dearly.
