Elsie McGarvey Obituary

Elsie Louise Sarricks McGarvey
Elsie Louise Sarricks McGarvey, 92, of North Washington passed away at 7:10 p.m. Sunday at the Butler VNA Inpatient Hospice.
Elsie was born March 19, 1920, in Pittsburgh, to the late Ambrose Sarricks and the late Ruth Miller Sarricks.
She was a graduate of Shaler High School and a 1941 graduate of Slippery Rock State Teacher's College. Elsie taught physical education and English at Bessemer High School and West Mifflin Area Schools and retired from the Karns City School District.
She was a member of the North Washington Presbyterian Church, where she served as church elder and deacon and was president of the Women's Missionary Society at various times throughout the years. Her hobbies included traveling, golf, bowling, playing bridge with her friends and spending time with her family.
Elsie is survived by her children, Ruth (John) Mizik of Mercer, David McGarvey of North Washington, Susan (Wayne) Nerone of Butler and Mark (Diane) McGarvey of Hilliards and her foster son, Howard Fleeger, of Seattle; and five grandchildren, Susan (Michael) Roche of Cortland, Ohio, Casey (David) Sedon of New Brighton, Christopher L. McGarvey, of Butler, Alekas Nerone of Hampton, Va., and Vincent Nerone of Butler. Five great-grandchildren also survive.
She was preceded in death by her husband, C. Foster McGarvey Jr., who she married Dec. 26, 1941, and who died in 1971; her loving stepmother, Esther Scott Sarricks; and her son, Christopher Foster McGarvey III.
MCGARVEY - Friends of Elsie Louise Sarricks McGarvey, who died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012, will be received at the William F. Young Funeral Home, 132 Main St., West Sunbury, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Kevin Channel, her pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the North Washington Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the Butler VNA Inpatient Hospice or to the American Cancer Society.
