Gayle Bricker Obituary

Gayle A. Bricker Jr., 96, of Sarver, passed away peacefully Friday, Dec. 18, 2020, at Concordia Lutheran Ministries in Cabot.

Born in Sarver on Feb. 14, 1924, he was the son of the late Margaret R. (Hughes) and Gayle A. Bricker Sr. He was the widower of Betty Viola (Durst) Bricker who passed in 2001.

Gayle was a 1942 graduate of Winfield High School. After graduation he took a job at Allegheny Ludlum Steel in Brackenridge. Shortly after his employment, Gayle enlisted in the United States Army. He was a radioman and saw action in Normandy, Belgium, and the Philippines. His unit was preparing for the invasion of mainland Japan before the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

After his honorable discharge from the Army, Gayle came home to Sarver and continued his employment at A & L Steel. He was an electronic repair supervisor at the mill for 40 years, retiring in 1982. The mill immediately hired Gayle back as an independent contractor to teach electrical mechanical repair for another 10 years. When he finally retired from the mill for good, he took a position as a consultant at the Armstrong Cement Plant in West Winfield for five years.

Gayle was a longtime member of the Buffalo Presbyterian Church in Buffalo Township. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, golf, and the Steelers. Gayle was an amazing mechanical craftsman, building his own tractors and small devices.

Gayle is survived by his two sons, Howard B. (Karen) Bricker of Buffalo Township and Dr. Samuel Bricker of Chambersburg; two daughters, Gaylene B. (Robert) Parks of North Canton, Ohio, and Sally Anne Bricker of Glenshaw; and seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his three nieces, Deborah (Jim) Frantz of South Buffalo Township, Cynthia Bricker of Natrona Heights and Laurel (Chuck) Smith of Worthington.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he is preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Aileen Bricker; brothers, Donald (Joan) Bricker and Cecil Bricker; and his sister, Dorothy Campbell.

Bricker - At the family's request there will be no public visitation for Gayle A. Bricker Jr., who died Friday, Dec. 18, 2020.

Mr. Bricker will be laid to rest along side his wife at the Buffalo Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Sarver.

I miss you. I love you

Mr. Bricker was, without a doubt, one of the smartest people we had the privilege of knowing. He was such a kind man as well, and we will miss him.
Gayle was my Uncle Bill Affrica’s boss at Allegheny Ludlum for many years, and my uncle always spoke highly of him. Everyone that knew him spoke of his genius.
We were lucky to call Mr. Bricker “neighbor” for ten years. He welcomed us to the neighborhood and anytime we needed to know anything about how something worked, needed fixed, or the history of our house or neighborhood, we knew who to go to. What an amazing mind and amazing man.
To his children and his whole family, we express our prayers and deepest sympathies. Mr. Bricker will be missed on Moorehead Road.
