Joseph ROSTAD Obituary
February 29, 1928 - November 10, 2011
Joe went to be with his Lord on Thursday, November 10, 2011 after a long and courageous struggle with cancer. His final days were spent at the Southwood Hospice surrounded by his family and friends. He was born in Southey, SK and grew up on the family farm along with nine siblings. He graduated from seminary in Saskatoon in 1951 and served parishes in Armena, AB and Prince Albert, SK. In 1960 he moved to Calgary and built a thriving congregation at Christ Lutheran Church. His vision to help people fulfill their travel dreams eventually led him to start Rostad Tours and Oakridge Travel while he still continued to be active in the church as Assistant Pastor at Lutheran Church of the Cross. Besides travelling to Maui with his family, golf became his favourite pastime, and he enjoyed being the first person on the course in the morning. Joe will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 60 years, Doris, as well as his two sons and their spouses: Don (Joanne) and David (Tracy). He was Grandpa Joe to six granddaughters: Shannon, Jeanette, Kari, Carmen, Kristin and Tara. He was also blessed with four great-grandchildren: Piper, Conor, Ryley and Ryan. His surviving siblings include Muriel (Walter) Tastad, Ed (Mary), Olaf (Ivy), Violet (Rick) Stalwick, Harold (Grace) and John (Blanche). He was predeceased by his son Joel, his brother Lloyd and his sisters Cam and Joyce.The funeral will take place at the Lutheran Church of the Cross (10620 Elbow Drive S.W., Calgary) at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 16. There will be a reception at the church afterwards for family and friends to celebrate his life. Interment will follow at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens, 17 Avenue S.W. and Lower Springbank Road. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Calgary Prostate Cancer Foundation, 6500, 7007 - 14 Street S.W., Calgary, AB T2V 1P9 ( www.prostatecancercentre.ca ). Joe's optimism, sense of humour and caring ways will be missed by all those who knew and loved him. I have very fond memories of Joe. We met in Edmonton in 1980 and Helen and I hosted our first of 15 tours with Rostad with Joe and Doris in 1982. Joe had a contagious laugh and a ready wit.

Donna and I are currently out of the country but wish to extend to you Doris and your family our deepest sympathy in your loss.
I remember so well when Doris and Joe came to Armena and Scandia. As my Father and Mother often said to me"they are the best thing that has happened to the Community and Scandia"
