March 27, 1965 – Toronto, Ontario
June 2, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta
Dina Lee Salivan of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at the age of 53 years after a long and courageous journey with cancer. Dina worked at Coca- Cola in Ontario and moved to Calgary to work in operations at the bottling plant in 1998 and quickly made the West her home with a love for the mountains and way of life. All who knew her would say Dina was an extraordinary woman with a wicked sense of humour and a love for all animals two and four legged as exemplified by her love of German Shepherds and loss of her beloved Sammy in 2017. A force of nature, Dina touched everyone she met with a huge heart, aura and attitude, she was not an easy woman to forget. Her love for the 70's, seniors, the Golden Girls and good old days was unrivalled. Dina made a massive impact on her community, friends and family during her seven-year battle with Cancer when she focused her energies on 'Making the World a Better Place'. She created a Pay it Forward campaign where she came up with the idea to will approximately $80,000 to hundreds of people with the request that they use the money for charity or other acts of random kindness. Instead of carrying out this portion of her will after her death she decided to execute the idea in her last few years of life. The gifts of kindness ballooned https:/ /www.facebook.com/DinaGivingStories/ as people shared their stories of random acts giving Dina much joy in her final days. Dina is survived by her mother Norma and her partner Don White; her brother, Gregg Salivan and his partner Stephanie Cox; her nephews, Grant, Aidan, Matthew; niece Kirsten and extensive friends in Calgary and Toronto. Dina was predeceased by her father Don. A Celebration of Dina's Life will be held on Sunday, June 10, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in Calgary, AB. Those interested in attending, please email lisabratton@shaw.ca. A ceremony will be held in Toronto at a later date. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. Special thank you to the angels at Rosedale Hospice and all her amazing Calgary friends who took such special care of her during her long illness, along with her spectacular Medical team at Tom Baker and the hospice, Dr. Coulter, Dr. Nixon, Dr. Wu, Dr. Pickering and Dr. Lemieux. In living memory of Dina Salivan, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park.

I used to work day to day with Dina in Toronto for many years. After which she went to Coke, and eventually moved to Calgary, I moved to Manitoba. After not keeping in touch for many, many years we were able to meet up in BC for a long weekend, it was as if no time had passed at all, we laughed (mostly her), played stupid card games (her idea), and drank lots & lots of wine. I recall she showed up with her dog and her water pillow (makes me smile every time I think of her). I was just thinking of her the other day and couldn't find her on facebook and found out that she had passed and was so saddened. She was a bright light that will be missed in this world.

Words, words so warmly and well spoken by family and friends as Dina was remembered yesterday. I regret that I only knew Dina as a little girl whom her grandmother, my Auntie Phyllis, welcomed with love into the family. Phyllis was generous and giving in her life as well. Dina loved and was loved and reached out with her Pay it Forward Campaign knowing "we are stronger when we are given love". Kenny Loggins
"It seems to me when something really ought to be true then it has a very powerful truth". "Love... is only a glimpse or a parable of an embracing, incomprehensible reality...the eternal breaking in on the temporal." Marilynne Robinson, Gilead

"God so loved the World that he gave his only Son,so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life." John 3:16 Bible

...the river does not run dry..

Dina's mother Norma is our dear friend. Even though we only met Dina a few times, her vibrancy and intelligence were evident. We knew how wonderful she was through her mother's updates of her life in Calgary. Her loss is hard to absorb or understand. She contributed so much to so many. We share the sadness of all who loved Dina.

No words can truly describe this beautiful, loving, kind and funny woman who I knew and spent memorable moments with for too short a time. I will think of her often and smile.

I was a recipient of her :Pay it Forward" campaign. She was lovely, sweet and visited me in my home a few times and cooked for me also. I know she is in a better place and out of pain at last.
