BALAAM _ Elizabeth Scott (Longeway) Elizabeth Scott Balaam (nee Longeway) passed away peacefully in the Holy Cross Nursing Home on Thursday, May 13, 2004 at the age of 83. Elizabeth was born October 5, 1920 in Calgary to parents Howard Henry and Alice Backer Longeway. Elizabeth grew up on the family farm in the Springbank District finishing grade eleven. Her working life included several years as office manager-stenographer for Calgary Co-op, Wilson's Stationery and Standen's Ltd. Elizabeth married Howard James Balaam March 14, 1970. She continued working for a few years as office manager in the Town & Country Motor Inn, running a private printing business and renovating houses. Crafts have been a big part of Elizabeth's life. She was very talented excelling in paper tole, crocheting, decorating Ukrainian eggs and sewing. Many have benefited from her leadership and talents and many of us are proud to display her work. Elizabeth was predeceased by her parents, husband, and sister-in-law Betty Longeway. She is survived by two brothers, Eric and Gerald Longeway (Sally) of Springbank; stepdaughters, Aubrey Berdine (Dennis) of Vermilion, and Marlace Susut (Jack) of Prince George; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. A remembrance Celebration of life will be held Thursday, May 20, 2004 at 3:00 p.m., at FOSTER'S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 - 4 Street N.W., Calgary, AB (across from Queen's Park Cemetery). Interment will follow at the Springbank United Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Parkinson's Society, Heart and Stroke Fund, or charity of your choice.
