MARKIN, Florence Marie (nee Morozoff)
October 21, 1927 - October 26, 2015
We are rarely graced with the presence of a person who embraces life with such profound vitality, devotion and spirit as Florence Marie Markin. When an individual like this passes, they leave a very tender place in all of our hearts. This is the legacy of 'Flo', who passed away peacefully on October 26, 2015 at the age of 88.
Flo, dear wife of the late Andrew, leaves to cherish in her memory her children Allan Markin (Patricia), Diana Lodon (Norman), Jerry Markin (Patricia), and Kathryn MacPhail (Keith); grandchildren Valerie, Kerry, Jess, Rodney, Darren, Jane, Karlyn, Kyle, and Kassidy; and eleven great-grandchildren. Florence is survived by her sister and brother-in-law Ann and Neil Querin; as well as her long- time friends and travel companions Erna Dreger and Lynda McIntosh. She also leaves to mourn her passing numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends, far too many to mention. She was predeceased by her parents Annie and Samuel Morozoff; sisters Annie, Polly, Lillian, and Edna; and brothers Alec, Nick, Sam, and John.
Born in 1927, Flo lived on a farm two miles northwest of Veregin, SK, which is still in the Morozoff family. She treasured her time on the farm and spent summer days running around barefoot and on cold winter days, travelling to school by a horse-drawn sleigh. In 1936, the family moved to Blackie, AB, where she attended the Alta View School. A few years later, Flo moved to Exshaw, AB, where she completed her education. In 1943, she moved to Calgary to become a nanny and fell madly in love with her roommate's boyfriend, Andy. They were married in June of 1944.
Flo was the golden thread who knit her diverse family close together. Along with her passion for her extended family, she loved curling, sewing, quilting, square and round dancing, clogging, golfing and travel. She approached all of these interests with zest and joy, bringing many close friends into her circle of love along the way. In her personal, professional and volunteer life, Florence was remarkably industrious and had an uncanny way of making things happen.
Today we surrender our matriarch and role model to the Heavens above.
