Frank TOGSTAD Obituary

Published by Calgary Herald from May 17 to May 23, 2017.
TOGSTAD, Frank Andrew
June 8, 1952 – Calgary, Alberta
May 15, 2017 – Calgary, Alberta
Frank Togstad, beloved husband of Jean Togstad (nee Grant), passed away suddenly in the early morning of Monday, May 15, 2017 at the age of 64 years. Also left behind to mourn are sons Jacob, Lucas, and Micah; his sister and brother in law Laura and Doug Baxter their family Nathan and Sky and new daughter Indigo, and Anne and Jarod; a very large extended family, as well as so very many friends. Frank grew up on the family farm in the Crossfield/Beiseker area and received an Engineering Degree from the University of Calgary after graduating high school in Airdrie. He enjoyed working as an engineer in the oil and gas sector, building gas plants for many years, but his first love was always farming. Frank put his knowledge and creativity from both careers to good use, creating, inventing, proudly holding several patents. Frank married later in his life, apparently a bit of a "family tradition." He was very proud of his three sons and their accomplishments; he loved watching them play sports and was their biggest fan. Frank enjoyed all sports, but had a particular fondness for baseball and played on various teams throughout the years. Frank made an extraordinary number of friends during his time on Earth, and loved nothing more than visiting in a crowd over a beer or a martini. He will be greatly missed. The family would like to thank the Emergency Staff at the Foothills Medical Centre, in particular, Dr. Jeffrey Shaw for their care and compassion. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street North) on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. A Celebration of Frank's Life will be held at the Crossfield and District Community Centre (900 Mountain Avenue, Crossfield, AB T0M 0S0) on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Crossfield Cemetery. Reception to follow at the Community Centre. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In living memory of Frank Togstad, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park.

Dear Jean, Jacob, Lucas, and Micah:
We are in deep sorrow and disbelief for your loss of dear Frank so suddenly. I hope the love and fond memories that he left behind will ease your pain in this trying time. We were classmates at the U of C. Even though we have not kept in touch through out these years, I can still vividly recall Frank being very witty, friendly, quiet, and accommodating! He will be missed by all of us.

Jean and Family, we were so saddened by Frank's passing. There were so many good times sharing stories and tales with Frank, and more recently you and family at the Shuswap Lake in the summer. I hope we can continue to see you there and cherish the memories. Please accept our deepest sympathies, knowing Frank will be dearly missed.

A friend, neighbour & coworker will be missed by all. His love for his family, farming, engineering & his many interests made him such an interesting person to visit with. He played ball in Irricana with Glen & was such a passionate fan of the game.
RIP Frankie, our condolences to his family.
Kind regards,

I attended the U of C with Frank. I remember him as a good friend , always positive with a smile on his face or a chuckle in his voice. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.

Having met and worked with Frank, but none of his family, I can appreciate the great depth of their tragic loss. My heartfelt condolences are offered.

I believe the day shall come when Frank's wishes will be realized as legacy: That his legal struggles shall benefit other landowners.

I for one have recognized, and shall not forget, what Frank (with others) unselfishly sought to do.

There were a lot of tears in Toronto when we heard this news, not only from me but from people who had heard of Frank but had never had the chance to meet him.

There are many of us who now have a gap in our lives, but Frank's family has the biggest gap and our hearts are particularly with them through this difficult time.

I am sorry to hear of Frank's passing. I don't remember everyone from my U of C engineering days but I do remember Frank as being unusually relaxed under the intensity of engineering studies. Frank will be missed by everyone.
