MORRIS, James Howard
September 27, 1953 - January 8, 2013
After running a long hard race with brain cancer, Jim crossed the finish line on January 8, 2013 at the age of 59 years. Jim was a well respected member of the Calgary Police Service. He received numerous awards and accolades over his thirty-four years of service; including the Queen's Jubilee medal. For many years he was an avid member of the running community; running many marathons, ultra marathons as well as directing and timing a number of high profile events throughout his running career. He was the much loved husband and best friend to Terry and will be greatly missed by his daughter Casey (Bryce) and his son Clinton (Grant); he was Grampa Jim to Logan, Faith and Dylan. He is also survived by his parents Marion and Norman Morris; brother Ken (Laurin) Morris; sister Deb Morris; nieces and nephews Jessica Crook, Tricia Morris and Andrew Morris; beloved dogs Loki, Joey, Taz and Sasha; and his horses too. Jim was predeceased by his best pal Boomer. A Celebration of Jim's Life will be held at the Calgary Police Service Chapel (5111 - 47 Street N.E., Calgary AB) on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada at No. 301 - 620 Colborne Street, London, ON N6B 3R9 or at www.braintumour.ca. Thanks to Dr. J. Esau, Dr. Tsang, Dr. Tadros and staff at the Tom Baker Cancer Center with a very special thanks to nurse Jenna Halgreud for her exceptional care and compassion. In living memory of Jim Morris, a tree will be planted at Big Hill Springs Park, Cochrane.

Marilyn and I were much saddened to hear of Jim's passing. We are sorry we could not be at the service for Jim yesterday but we are travelling down south. Although we had not seen much of you folks in recent years, we have great memories of Jim, Boomer and you in our racing days. We remember trips to Victoria and Kananaskis, and especially Jim's great enthusiasm for running, as well as all the contributions made to the running community.

We hope all goes well for you, and your family. Take care, Marilyn and Ted

My sympathy goes to all that hold Jim in their heart. Jim was a good person who gave unselfishly. We will miss Jim, but will also cherish the fond memories of what he shared with us. I am comforted to think Jim will be with his good friend Boomer and all he loved gone before him. Rest in peace my friend. I look forward to the days when we can run with joy together again.

Dear Terry,

I'm so sorry to hear of Jim's passing.
Take comfort in knowing Jim will always be with you.

"Death for one ought not mean death for two.
We cannot die of grief unless we will.
Love requires us to love life still,
Lest love be less than life and death are due.
We cannot choose but choose for others, too,
For what we choose does what we are distill,
And open fields with inner sweetness fill,
That those who pass might hope or faith renew.
So may your love for loved ones that remain
Bring you through this season of despair
To some unquiet, sad, but gentle spring.
Emerging from your chrysalis of pain,
May you find a new world blossomed there
With new songs bittersweet that pleasure bring."

Thinking of you.

Terry: Jim's passing leaves a hole in the Calgary running community and in the hearts of everyone who knew him.

Our family's memories of Jim will always be of the years we helped you & Jim set up the Mother's Day race in McMahon and the Winterstart race in Banff – Jim always loved to be around Brad, especially when he was small – helping with the Winterstart package pick-up is still Emma's favorite part of the race-day. You and Jim always made everything happen from early in the afternoon until late that night.

Also, years and years of Saturday morning runs with the ‘Tech Shop' group come to mind, always followed by coffee and bagels at the Great Canadian Bagel

I've run with Jim lots over the years, he is a shining example of someone that was competitive, but was always there to share a laugh.

Jim gave of himself unselfishly to the community; as a true friend, professionally as a police officer, and in his spare time as a race organizer. I speak for may of his running buddies when I say that we miss him already.

Deepest sympathy to Terry and the rest of the family.
