William SYDORUK Obituary

With great sadness we say goodbye to Bill Sydoruk, a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, who passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at the age of 91 years. Blessed with a full life of over 91 years, Bill was born in the village of Chortovets, in the Ivano Frankivsk region of western Ukraine. During the Second World War his father, Ivan, and he were taken by the Nazis as slave labourers to the Third Reich. In 1949 he immigrated to Canada from a Displaced Persons camp in Germany. Bill retired after 30 years' service from Canada Safeway (MacDonalds Consolidated). In Canada, he was an active member of St. Vladimir's Ukrainian Orthodox Church, resolutely committed to the cause of Ukraine's independence. Bill will be dearly missed by Katherine, his wife of 65 years; his sons and their wives Stephen, Borys (Donna), Nick (Helen), Peter (Juliana); his grandchildren Andrea (Cory), Jaclyn, Andrew, Alex and Sonya; and great-grandchildren Ethan and Avery. Bill also leaves family in Ukraine, the USA, and Italy. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers (Panachyda) at St. Vladimir's Ukrainian Orthodox Church (402 Meredith Road NE) on Friday, March 16, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be celebrated at St. Vladimir's Ukrainian Orthodox Church (402 Meredith Road NE) on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. Graveside service to follow at Queen's Park Cemetery. Photos, memories and condolences may be shared with Bill's family through www.evanjstrong.com. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Ukrainian Canadian Civil Liberties Foundation (www.ucclf.ca), to the Friends of Ukrainian Defence Forces (9 Plastics Avenue, Toronto, ON M8Z 4B6; 416-516-8223; www.lucorg.com/block.php/ block-id/63), or to the St. Vladimir's Ukrainian Orthodox Church Bishops Orphanage Project (402 Meredith Road NE, Calgary, AB, T2E 5A6; 403-264-3437; www.stvlads.com). Dear Boris and family,
It is hard for me to write this as my mother passed away March 10th and we are in the processes of arranging for her funeral.
Your father was a very elegant, patriotic and kind man. You have inherited all those traits.
Your father and my mother seemed to be cut from the same cloth.
