James Stewart Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Apr. 15 to Apr. 17, 2011.
STEWART, James Milton, UE September 19, 1932 - April 10, 2011 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jim Stewart, at the age of 78 years. Along with his loving wife Lorna, Jim is survived by son Jeff (Rita), and daughters, Sheila (Toni Gendron), Rebecca (Bill Gray) and Lorraine (Mike Leslie), as well as grandchildren, Tyler and Jordan, Alexia and Rmi, and Jack, Trevor and Amy. Jim grew up a poor farm boy from Saskatchewan. He graduated in 1955 from the University of Alberta with a Petroleum Engineering degree. Over a forty year career he worked at Shell, Dome Petroleum, and PanCanadian. He was a great mentor to young engineers, generous with both his knowledge and time. Jim was a gifted bass singer who sang for many years in Barbershop chorus, as well as the St. Andrews Anglican Church choir. Jim was actively involved in Calgary Little League Baseball, spending many summers as an umpire. He was a genealogy buff, and a proud member of the United Empire Loyalists. As evidence of their generous nature, in 1989 Jim and Lorna set up the U of C Stewart Family Bursaries, which annually assist two engineering students. Jim was always great fun to be around, and his trademark chuckle will be dearly missed. Jim always put his family first, and his legacy of love and wisdom will carry on through his children and grandchildren. Although Jim suffered from Parkinsons disease for the last twelve years of his life, he always maintained his sense of humour and dignity. He will be deeply missed by his wife and children, and by his grandchildren, whom he enjoyed immensely. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAYS Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Jims honour may be made directly to the Parkinsons Society of Southern Alberta, No. 102, 5636 Burbank Crescent S.E., Calgary, AB T2H 1Z6 (Telephone 403-243-9901, www.parkinsons-society.org ). Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com . In living memory of James Stewart, a tree will be planted at Big Hill Springs Park, Cochrane.

Lorna and family,
Don and I express our deepest sympathies to all of you for the loss of a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, and our friend Jim. He's been a blessing to all of us at St. Andrew's Church and will be deeply missed. Jim has his place with the angels in our Heavenly choir. Lorna, may you feel the peace and comfort of our Lord at this time.

Dear Stewart family,
I am deeply saddened by the news of your loss. I feel privileged to have known such a decent and quietly honourable man whose first love was always his family. He spoke fondly and proudly of you all and I always looked forward to our meetings.
May loving happy memories help you through this time and keep Jim close.

Dear Stewart Family: I have many fond memories of spending time with Jim around the baseball diamonds of Calgary when we were involved in Little League Baseball. My thoughts are with you and this difficult time.

Dear Lorna and Family:

Chris and I were deeply saddened by the news of Jim's sudden passing. I would never have had the career I had at PanCanadian if it had not been for Jim Stewart. He was a patient and kind mentor, a real gentleman, and a great poet and songwriter. His sense of humor and the twinkle in his eye was legendary to all who had the pleasure of working with him. We shared many laughs at the workplace.

Jim was a man who cherished his family and adored his grandchildren. He had a gentle strength and wisdom about him which I am certain will be missed by the entire Stewart
Clan.

We will always remember Jim fondly. We are all better people for having known and worked with Jim Stewart. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

God bless!

Dear Lorna and Family:

Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this truly sad time time. I too have been saddened to hear of Jim's passing. I had the pleasure of being mentored by Jim in the late 80's at PanCanadian and worked with him on and off until his retirement in the nineties. He was a remarkable man, teacher, mentor and co-worker; he made a lasting impression and positive difference on me and my career and that of many others. He had a great sense of humour and I will never forget his laugh after one of his stories or jokes - he certainly made work fun! May you rest in peace Jim!

An amazing gentleman, Mr. Stewart was truly a great leader with the Calgary Branch of the United Empire Loyalists' Association of Canada. Having met him back in 2002, I always looked forward to meeting him again at UELAC functions in Alberta.
