VICKERS, Harold Ratchford
Harold R. Vickers passed away suddenly at home on Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at the age of 62 years.
Harold received his Bachelor of Arts Degree at St. Francis Xavier University, Antigonish, Nova Scotia, with Honours Distinction in English and History in 1972. Harold received a Bachelor of Laws Degree from Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1975 and was admitted to The Law Society of Alberta in 1976. He completed his articles with Eamon, Rollins and Company, Barristers and Solicitors, Calgary, Alberta with particular emphasis on Real Estate and Mortgage practice where he commenced his foreclosure practice in 1977.
In 1980, Harold jointly opened Eamon, Vickers, Vogel & Butler, which law firm subsequently became Eamon Vickers & Gillis. In 1986, Mr. Vickers established Vickers & Associates which became Vickers Hendrix LLP in 2009 and practices in the areas of Litigation, Corporation and Commercial law, and commercial and residential real estate with particular emphasis on mortgages and mortgage foreclosures for National Banks, Trust Companies, Mortgage Investment Corporations and Private Lenders. Harold Vickers had lectured for the Alberta Mortgage Brokers Association (AMBA) and was employed by Mount Royal College (now Mount Royal University) as a lecturer for the Mortgage Brokerage course which is mandatory for Alberta Mortgage Brokers.
Harold will be missed by his children, Jason Ratchford Vickers of Kentville, NS, Breanna Jo Vickers (Yuya Tanaka) of Calgary and Peter Francis Vickers of Calgary. He will also be missed by his siblings, Mildred (Tom) D'Arcy of Halifax, NS, George (Myra) Vickers of New Glasgow, NS, Paul (Karen) Vickers of Halifax, NS, Madonna (Kevin) Vickers-Touesnard of Antigonish, NS and sister-in-law Christene Vickers-Crosby of Antigonish, NS. Harold is also survived by nieces and nephews, Robert MacInnis of Calgary, Lisa (Mike) Simms of Halifax, Heidi (Ryan) Sommers of Mirimachi, Danielle (Shane) Pitts, New Glasgow, Holly (Dennis) Vickers of Antigonish, Krista Vickers of Antigonish, Philip Vickers of Halifax, Bradley (Kate) Vickers of Halifax, Ryan Gillis of Halifax, Ashley (Jeff) Gillis of Halifax and Erin (Chris) Gillis of Halifax, Sara and Matthew Codd of Red Deer, Jenna Kerekes; his dear friends Paul and Myra Stein, Paul MacDonald, Nando Valponi, Sandi Arseila Valponi, Donna and Greg Busby and friends Vannessa and Sheila Smith.
Harold was predeceased by his wife Laura in 2006, his brother Peter in 1992, his father George in 2003 and his mother Margaret in 2009.
Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive S.W. Calgary, AB) Today, July 20, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael Catholic Community Church (800 – 85 Street S.W.) on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
In living memory of Harold Vickers, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park.
