Lawrence Alan "Larry" Coffey Obituary
Lawrence Alan Coffey

Canyon Lake, TX

Lawrence Alan Coffey (Larry) died Monday, December 31, at his lake home in Canyon Lake, Texas.

Born April 23, 1958, the son of Eugene and Edith Coffey, Larry graduated from Richard King High School in Corpus Christi and received a Bachelor of Business Administration from The University of Houston where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. He earned his Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Houston in 1983 and immediately began practice with his father Eugene in Corpus Christi. Larry worked as Assistant District Attorney for Nueces, Kleberg, and Kennedy County. He then became an associate with the law firms of Redford, Wray and Woolsey, followed by Broyles and Pratt. He then became a partner with the firm of Dunn and Weathered; and finally, Dunn, Coffey and Kasperitis. Larry was a member of The State Bar of Texas, the Corpus Christi Bar Association, Life Fellow in the Texas Bar Foundation, and Texas Association of defense Counsel. He was a distinguished Attorney receiving honors of AV Preeminent and Texas Super Lawyers 2011-2018.

Larry and Leanne Coffey are the proud parents of three children: Jennifer Slentz (James), Dr. Michael Coffey (Sarissa), and Christopher Coffey (Rhiannon).

In 2004, Larry married the love of his life Sharon Selby. In the package came her daughter Autumn, and granddaughter Kathryn, whom "PaPa" brought in to his new family with open arms.

Larry was a renaissance man. In this day when everybody can do something but no one can do everything he was the exception. He was an artist, a poet, an engineer, a doctor, and anything else that the situation called for. If he did not know the answer to the question he would research it until he did. He gave of himself freely and without question. If you were a friend or a client, he would take care of you like he was your brother; if you were his child he was a rock, a foundation that was always there for you; If you were his grandchild he was PaPa, pure love; to his mother he was her loving "blue eyed baby boy," and to his wife Sharon he was everything.

He leaves a void that can only be filled with the love and knowledge that he freely gave to each of us that were fortunate enough to have known and loved him.

Larry is survived by his wife Sharon; mother Edith Coffey; his sisters Kitty Medina (Joe), JoAnn Dickinson (Mike), Norma Schvaneveldt (Tim); his children Jennifer Slentz, Michael Coffey, and Christopher Coffey; and his step child Autumn Wilson (Chad).

He was PaPa to 9 grandchildren: Raylan Coffey (2 months), Abigail Slentz (8), Zachary Slentz (6), Madelyn Slentz (2), Daniel Coffey (7), Alex Coffey (3), Kathryn Wilson (16), Evan Wilson (8), and Cohin Wilson (5).

A memorial service will be held at The Solomon Ortiz Center on Friday, January 11, 2019 at 3 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, in honor of the kind of man Larry was, the family would like you to pay it forward with a random act of kindness to someone in need.
