Omayra O'Donnell

Corpus Christi - With profound sadness and devastation, we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother Omayra O'Donnell to the arms of our Heavenly Father, and reuniting with her beloved late husband, our father and grandfather, Francis Anthony O'Donnell.

Omayra was born November 2, 1937 surrounded by the glorious tropical foliage of Boquete, Panama, which instilled her lifelong love of nature, with its ever-providing beauty to this Earth. Panama also provided the setting for our beloved Mother to meet our late father and grandfather Francis Anthony O'Donnell while he served there in the United States Army. Although they spoke different languages when they met, the language of love was greater for nearly 50 years thereafter. The unyielding love and admiration she shared with her Panamanian family was a constant throughout her life. No barrier was too high for our petite 4'10" mother whose physical, intellectual, and emotional strength made her a giant to all who knew her.

Omayra was especially proud of her 18 grandchildren. Throughout her life, she held onto countless mementos that commemorated the achievements and highlights of their lives, and was always present for the significant life events of her grandchildren. Her pride and love for her grandchildren and their worthy and unique life paths was unparalleled.

Omayra deeply loved and adored our Pennsylvania and Florida families, and her circle of close friends knew that a friendship with her would be a friendship for life. Our family honors the love, comfort, and kindness they gave to her.

Omayra had a profound love of antiques, particularly dolls. There wasn't a doll that she could not see the true beauty in, and making them more beautiful filled her with endless joy. She was an original founder of Renaissance Antiques Corpus Christi and was the heart and soul of the business for 21 years. Her presence will be felt there eternally. She also loved to travel and discover new places, creating fond memories along the way and leaving pieces of her heart everywhere she went throughout the world.

Omayra is preceded in death by her husband Francis Anthony O'Donnell; her mother Lilia Guerra de Mendoza; and her sister Nelsy Guerra de Cano. Her passing has left a huge void for her surviving family members: her son Richard O'Donnell, wife Debra and grandsons Jacob, Jameson and Jeremy; her son Francis Anthony O'Donnell II and grandchildren Amanda, James, Francis, Maureen, Kathleen, Ceara, Erin and Tera; her daughter Anne Marie Dobson, husband Hugh and grandsons Coy and Harmon; her daughter Debbie Anne O'Donnell and granddaughters Natasha and Sabrina; her daughter Jean Elizabeth O'Donnell and partner Robert (Robbie) Johnson, and granddaughter Chelsea; her son James Joseph O'Donnell and grandson Justin; her son-in-law David Oakes and granddaughter Lauren; her sister Dina Urban and her brother Ruben Guerra, along with many nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren and friends.

Omayra's grace in living, her vibrancy and tenacity and her unyielding devotion to her family and friends made her a truly unique human being and will remain her legacy always.

A private family service was held on Monday, April 26, 2021 at Seaside Memorial to honor the life well lived of our beloved mother and grandmother. A public memorial service for all who cherished Omayra will be held at a later date.

The O'Donnell family would like to express their gratitude for God's love, shown through compassion, care, and kindness of so many, which has surrounded us in our time of profound grief.

In lieu of flowers, the O'Donnell family requests that a donation be made to the following non-profit organizations:

My husband and I loved Omayra , and felt her beautiful presence as an honor anytime we spoke to her. Her smile , her wit, and that beautiful laugh. I am finding out about her death today 5/4/21 sitting in the state of North Dakota, due to the death of my husband’s mother. We had called her on March 27th and received no answer. I am in tears over your families loss. The world has lost such a beautiful soul, and heaven has gained the joy of her presence.
With respect and love for her ,
