Rene Cantu
Freer - Rene Cantu, age 67, passed away at home surrounded by his loved ones on January 2, 2021 in Freer, Texas. He was born November 5, 1953 in San Diego, Texas to Jose and Elvira Cantu. Rene worked in the oilfield industry for more than 40 years. He enjoyed playing golf, barbecuing and spending time with family and friends. He was a True Blue Buckaroo. He enjoyed attending sporting events, cheering on the Buckaroos. He will be remembered for the unconditional love he had for his family. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Elvira Cantu; sister, Elda Medellin; and brother, David Cantu.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Eufemia Cantu; two daughters, Lucy Guerra (Frank Guerra) and Rebecca Lichtenberger (DJ Lichtenberger); grandchildren, Lara Luna, Richard Lichtenberger III, Andru Guerra; great-grandchild, Aria Hope; siblings, Leo Cantu (Yohana), Jose Cantu (Lina), Conrado Cantu (Mary), Oscar Cantu (Sylvia), and Danny Cantu; brother -in-law, Abel Medellin; countless nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 5, 2021 from 5 p.m. till 9 p.m. at Rosas Funeral Home Chapel in Alice with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. that evening. A funeral mass will be celebrated Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at 2 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Freer. Burial to follow at Hahl Cemetery in Freer.
Pallbearers will be Arnold Ortiz, Arnulfo Ortiz, AR Cantu, Oscar Cantu Jr., Lazaro Lara, Martin Lara, Mike Cantu, and Robert Martinez. Honorary pallbearer will be Conrad Cantu.
