Ella Jean Fleming

FLEMING Ella Jean (Coss) Passed away peacefully on July 29 at Carlton Nursing Home. Though having fought valiantly through numerous operations and finally suffering from Alzheimer's and Macular Degeneration, she spent her final years fairly contentedly with various caregivers. She will be sadly missed by her elder sister, Vera Burnham, her son, Stuart Fleming, her daughter, Heather Pearce, and husband, Scott Pearce and her granddaughter, Alicia Pearce. Her sister, Irene Coss predeceased her by six years. Ella Jean was born in Niagara, Wisconsin and came with her parents and sisters in 1930 to Kaleden, B.C. where the family settled on a small fruit farm. She finished her high school in Penticton, B.C. and worked for Reid Coates Hardware for many years, moving to Calgary in 1954 where she worked as a stenographer for some time. There she met her husband, Jack Fleming who has predeceased her by 10 years. In 1960 they moved to New Westminster where Jack found employment as a psychiatric nurse in Sondale, B.C.. Ella Jean, Jack and the Fleming family were active members of Olivet Baptist Church for many years. Memorial Service: Wednesday August 5th at 2pm at Olivet Baptist Church 613 Queens Ave. New Westminster, reception to follow.
