MORELAND _ Barry Robert 1936 - 2008 Barry R. Moreland passed away suddenly September 10, 2008 at the age of 72. Barry will be dearly missed by his wife of fifty-two years Isabella Moreland; four children Graham Moreland (Karen), Vicki Boothman (Andy) of Calgary, Bill Moreland of Vancouver and Brian Moreland (Linda) of Calgary; six grandchildren Lindsay Moreland, Kathleen Boothman, Kayle Moreland, Harry Boothman, Ben Moreland and Roberta Moreland; his father William F. Moreland; the family cat Bailey; and many friends. Barry was predeceased by his mother Mim Moreland in 2001. Barry was born in Portreeve, Saskatchewan and as a result of wartime challenges was raised by his grandparents. He was reunited with his parents at age fourteen and moved to Calgary where he joined Sea Cadets and developed his lifelong interest in the Navy. Two years later Barry joined the Navy where he served for five years as an Armour's Mate and a Diver. He has maintained his connection to the Navy by supporting the Navy Veterans and being active in the Corvette Club. While in Victoria, Barry met and fell in love with Isabella. They married in 1956 and moved to Calgary where they have resided since. Barry worked diligently as a manufacturer's rep for the automotive aftermarket companies, establishing his own company in 1979. Barry has been a dedicated Rotarian since 1974 in both the Calgary East and the Chinook Clubs. He is a Past President of the Calgary Chinook Club. Barry was an avid golfer and was proud of the many amateur tournaments he won. Barry was also a solid supporter of the Calgary Stampeders and was a proud member of their Alumni Association. Barry also enjoyed the arts, watching and encouraging his daughter's dancing and supporting those organizations. He was a passionate man who would focus his energy and drive into whatever task was at hand. He was animated, honest and dependable and will be lovingly remembered by his family and many friends. In honouring Barry's request, no Memorial Service will be held. If friends desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Veterans' Food Bank, c/o Calgary Poppy Fund, No. 1, 4539 - 6 Street N.E., Calgary, Alberta T2E 3Z6. Bear will be missed by me and many Rotarians and ROTI (Rotarians On The Internet) members. His good humor, great laugh and energy he expended on anything he did is an inspiration to everyone he met. I enjoyed his company at two Rotary International Conventions, San Antonio and Chicago. My grandfather lived and worked in Calgary in the early 1910's. Bear and I shared stories on old Calgary History. As a fellow left handed Natural Golfer, I will remember Bear with every golf round I play. Isabella, you and your daughter are in my prayers. He was and is a good man.

Although I have not met Barry personally, I had the opportunity to somehow know the person through his postings at the ROTI (Rotarians On The Internet) egroup to which both of us and many of his friends and admirers belong to. Barry will certainly be sorely missed. We will include the eternal repose of his soul in our prayers. In behalf of my family and the Rotary Club of Loyola Heights, please accept our sincere condolences.

Barry, or "Bear" as he was fondly known to members of ROTI (Rotarians On The Internet) was known for his warm personality and his willingness to share his knowledge with others. He was an anchor at the ROTI booth at RI International conventions. As a Multiple Paul Harris Fellow and Benefactor of Rotary, he showed his faith in the objectives of that organization by both his financial contributions and his personal dedication to those efforts.

We all pray that the Bear has found a new course to play as his proceeds to a golf course with greener greens, few sand traps,
no roughs, and straight fairways.

When I saw the Obituary listed, I just couldn't believe it was it was my "old Buddy" - from school and Sea Cadets!! When Barry "tracked-me-down" on the "phone" - I just about "fell-over!! My last e-mail from him was the 3 Sep 2008. My thoughts go out to his family - I'll miss him - Rick

I am shocked and so very saddened with this horrible news. Barry was a great friend and close ally for most of our automotive parts careers together, and his exploits on the golf course are the stuff of Legends!
My tears are flowing and I feel this great hollow emptiness inside me now -- he will be missed greatly!
My most sincerest condolences to his Family
