Alice Jurjovec Obituary
Alice Marie Jurjovec, 96, passed away on August 4, 2018 at Skyline Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Alice was born on January 7, 1922 to John and Mary Relic (nee' Ratkovich), in Canon City, Colorado. As a life-long resident of Canon City, Alice was a true pillar of the community, and lifelong member of St. Michael Catholic Church. She graduated from Canon City High School in 1939 and was united in marriage to Leo Gordon Jurjovec on August 1, 1946 at St Michael Church in Canon City. She and Leo owned and operated the Canon Café and Bar, and she worked at Fremont National Bank/Wells Fargo for over 50 years. She worked various positions at the bank leading to a promotion to Assistant Vice President of Public Relations. Alice also worked two years for the Canon City Credit Bureau, and three years for the Chamber of Commerce. Alice was very active in numerous clubs and organizations serving the community, including the National Secretaries Association where she was elected President and selected secretary of the year, the Business and Professional Women Association where she was selected as businesswoman of the year, the Fremont County March of Dimes where she was treasurer and organized the first March of Dimes walk in Fremont County. She served on the board as secretary at St. Michael's Church, was Past President of the Mountain/Valley Group of the National Association of Bank Women, served as Chairwoman with the State of Colorado National Association of Bank Women, and was a past member of the Advisory Board of the Colorado Correctional Department of Industrial Division. In 1968, Alice was a founding member and head prospector for the Canon City Chamber of Commerce Prospectors. She was also on the board for the St. Scholastica Academy, board member of the National Western Slavonic Association and was recording secretary of Lodge #9 in Canon City, as well as a former board member of the Fremont Custer Historical Society. In 1980 she was appointed to a three-year-term on the Eleventh Judicial District Nomination Commission by Governor Dick Lamm, to nominate attorneys for judge's positions, and was then reappointed for a second term. In 1988 Alice received the Canon City Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Citizen Award, was Grand Marshall in the 1994 Canon City Music and Blossom Festival parade, and she received the Volunteer of the Year award in 2006. Alice was very proud of her Croatian heritage, very supportive of the Tamburitza Association as well as traveling with family to Croatia (formerly known as Yugoslavia) to visit relations. She loved baking, china painting, Croatian/Polka music, Prospectors ribbon cuttings, First Fridays, and being with family and friends. She is survived by children: Leo J. (Shirley) Jurjovec of Fort Collins, CO, and Alice M. (John) Milburn of Canon City; grandchildren; Nick Jurjovec, Denver, CO, Ken (Felicia) Jurjovec, Fort Collins, CO, Mark (Keri) Jurjovec, Fort Collins, CO, Kristie Milburn, Canon City, Greg Milburn, Tinmath, CO, and Tim (Amy) Milburn, Davenport, Iowa. Great grandchildren: William and Piper Jurjovec, Jed, Charlie, Annamay Jurjovec, and Everyn Milburn. Sister: Alma Mandarich, Denver, CO, and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo, her parents John and Mary Relic, parents-in-law, Leo and Gertrude Jurjovec, brother, John, sisters-in-law Alberta Relic and Sylvia Jurjovec, brothers-in-law Mike Mandarich and Frank Jurjovec, niece Nadeen Carroll, and nephew Frank Jurjovec. Recitation of the Rosary with Vigil Service, 6:00 p.m. Monday, August 13, 2018, St. Michael Catholic Church, Mass of Christian Burial, 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 14, 2018, St. Michael Catholic Church, Rev.
