1935 - 2018 Obituary Condolences
James "Steve" Stephan 1935-2018

Age 82 of Canton passed away peacefully on Monday May 14, 2018. He was born in Canton, Ohio on October 17, 1935 to the late Charles and Jeanette (Harper) Stephan. A graduate of Central Catholic High, he went on to earn a degree in languages at Georgetown, including a year abroad in Madrid. A peacetime draftee after completing his education, he served his tour in the Army in Bad Kissingen, Germany, where he met his future wife, Erika. After completing his tour, they stayed in Germany for a few years and had all three children, prior to moving back to Canton. He retired from Goodyear after 32 years as an accountant.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Erika; their three children, Debbie Knickman, Andy (Sabrina) Stephan, Mark (Patty) Stephan; and his grandchildren; Emma, Bo, Mitchel, and Anna. He's also survived by his eldest brother, Charles (Rosemary) Stephan.

In his prime, he brushed up on languages learned and picked up new ones just for fun or travel. Later in life his hidden architectural talents truly came out via his LEGO creations: castles, German houses, and other buildings influenced by their travels.

At a date to be published in a later edition, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter Catholic Church in Canton, with a celebration of his life to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to Canton Christian Home would be appreciated. They made his final days comfortable. Services entrusted to the Mark R. Vrabel Funeral Home, North Canton, 330-452-4041.
