Laurie Marie Caplea Kolberg Obituary
Laurie Marie Caplea Kolberg

age 58, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, passed away surrounded by her family and friends on Saturday, May 12, 2018 after a courageous 15 month battle with cancer. She was born on Oct. 22, 1959 in Louisville, Ohio the daughter of Nicholas and Virginia (Himes) Caplea and the youngest of seven children. She has raised two beautiful children, Lauren Nikol Kolberg, 23, and John Francis Kolberg, 22.

Laurie was a 1978 graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Louisville, Ohio and attended Bowling Green University. She worked for the last five plus years as a medical assistant for her dear friend Simona Moore.

Along the journey of her life she collected the best of the best in friends, and never missed a moment to be with her family. She had a shine, and brightness that affected every room, every heart and every soul with laughter and love. It was a goal of Laurie's to see both of her children graduate, Niki from The Ohio State University and John from Wittenberg University with the latter being most recent. She will be sadly missed by her family, friends and patients that she has so lovingly cared for.

She is survived by her companion Pete Boutin; her children, Niki Kolberg and John Kolberg; a step-son, Korey (Twila) Kolberg and their three children; her siblings, Gay (Paul) Scherrer, Don (Sharon) Caplea, Joe (Anne) Caplea, James (Joanne) Caplea, Jeanne Caplea Variola, Christine (David) Pfister and her aunt Linda Lewis. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, her beloved dog Dashiel, and a very special friend of over 40 years Barb Zahler Alenik, John Variola, as well as so many more friends.

Laurie is welcomed in heaven by her parents Virginia (Ginni) Caplea (2001), Nicholas Caplea (2007), sister-in-law Sharon Caplea, brother-in-law Paul Scherrer, and grandparents Curt and Fanny Himes, Regina and George Caplea, as well as other aunts and uncles.

She lives on in the beautiful memories she has created with each of us, from dancing to any song at any moment, to her forever smile, her giggles and tee-hee laughter, air-saxophone solos, as well as in all of our hearts. Her family wants to thank all those caregivers, doctors and nurses who helped make the end of her life so comfortable.

The family will observe a Celebration of Life service at a later date. The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home of Mount Vernon is honored to serve the family of Laurie Marie Caplea Kolberg.

In lieu of flowers, please dance to "Celebration" by Kool & the Gang. Memorial contributions in Laurie's name may be made to help fight metastatic breast cancer at www.metavivor.org or a food donation can be dropped off at your local food pantry.
