Jane Fawcett Obituary

Jane Bingham Fawcett 1933 - 2018

age 84, of Falmouth, Maine died on Sunday, July 15, 2018 at Sedgewood Commons. Born on August 2, 1933 in Boston, Massachusetts to James Cunningham Bingham and Ruth (Hayes) Bingham, she grew up in West Medford, MA. and then Concord, NH.

After graduating from Colby Sawyer College in 1953, she married her late, ex-husband R. Richard Fawcett, Jr. on June 8, 1957. They raised two daughters in Canton, Ohio, spending summer vacations on Squirrel Island, in the Boothbay Harbor region of Maine.

Jane loved serving as a professional volunteer. She was president of the Junior League of Canton, Ohio Inc., the Children's Aid Society, the Aultman Hospital Women's Board and was the first woman appointed to the Canton City Planning Commission. She was a founding member and first president of the Canton Art Institute Museum Guild and the Center for Women in Transition where she was responsible for initiating The Grief Center that is now part of the Compassionate Care Center affiliated with Aultman Hospital in Canton. Jane was Chairman of the Canton City School Operating Levy Campaign in 1977. She also devoted 22 years to Pathway, an agency matching foster homes with neglected, abandoned and abused children where she served as president of the Board and later as Development Director. But perhaps her proudest accomplishment was as founding member and president of the Canton Ballet Company which now boasts a national reputation as a preprofessional training company.

She is survived by her two daughters, Lisa Fawcett of Tenafly, NJ and Julie Fawcett of Portland, Maine and granddaughter, Zoe Bonerbo. Jane is proceeded by her mother, Ruth (Hayes) Bingham of Auburn, ME., (1958), father, James Cunningham Bingham (1979) of Granite Lake, NH, brother, James "Jackie" C. Bingham, Jr. (1951), and her ex-husband, R. Richard Fawcett, Jr. (2003).

A memorial service will be held in Portland, Maine at a date and time to be determined soon. For an expanded version of Jane's obituary, please go to www.jonesrichandbarnes.com

Dear Lisa & Julie,
I have so many fond memories of Jane. We volunteered on many committees together, socialized together, and had many laughs together. We formed a friendship bond throughout her time in Canton. I will always have many fond memories to hold close to my heart. Wishing you the blessings of memories and the comfort of love each time you remember.
You are in my thoughts and prayers.
