Hannah Bozzy died on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2018, along with her close friend Rose Simonsen Franke, and their Chilean guide, David Abdala Huenchunao. The trio were exploring waterfalls in Laguna del Laja National Park about 260 miles south of Santiago, Chile, where all three had fallen, unexplainably, into the waters of the Malalcura estuary.
Hannah Lou Bozzy was born Aug. 26, 1993, in Milwaukee, Wis., to Craig and Jill Bozzy. She spent her younger years growing up in Winter Springs, Fla., where she spent most of her time riding and competing in horse shows. The highlight of her years here was her winning the National Geographic kids photo contest.
Hannah and her family moved to Evergreen in 2006, where she graduated from Evergreen High School. She was active in lacrosse and cross country running, and began to fulfill her wanderlust for travel by spending her junior year of high school in Germany as an exchange student.
Hannah graduated from the University of San Francisco in 2015. She had a degree in international politics, had studied abroad, notably Chile, and was fluent in three languages. It was in Chile Hannah met her future husband Alessandro Jara.
After graduation from USF, Hannah and Alessandro were married in Evergreen. They returned to live in Concon, Chile, where the love of their life, Celeste, was born.
Hannah had a deep and passionate love for her family, friends, horses, animals, the mountains and travel. She was a skilled equestrian, and there wasn't a facet of her life that didn't include her dogs Larry, Laura and Petey, all rescues. She led by example for all things green, vegetarian since birth, recycler of everything.
Hannah's love for all led her down a new path as a birth doula. She was so ecstatic to support two mothers during pregnancy and finally to assist in the birth of another during the last few months.
If you knew Hannah, you knew her beautiful smile, infectious laugh and warm spirit. She was an incredible force of nature, and we all feel so blessed that she shared herself with us for such a short time.
Hannah is survived by her husband Alessandro and daughter Celeste, mother Jill Bozzy and stepfather Scott McCullough, father and stepmother Craig and Rose Bozzy, brother, sister-in-law and sister, Alex and Julianne Bozzy, and Monica Bozzy.
There will be a celebration of Hannah's life at Willow Creek in Evergreen on Saturday, Nov. 17, 2018, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. hosted by Kristopher and Curtis Lincoln. Wear fun and festive attire, and Hannah's favorite color orange.
