Joseph P. Loughnane

FALMOUTH — Joseph P. Loughnane, 83, of Falmouth, formerly of Stoughton, died peacefully at the JML Care Center in Falmouth, on Aug. 4, 2008.

He was the beloved husband for 50 years of Margaret Mary (Lane) Loughnane.

Mr. Loughnane was born in Boston, the son of the late Patrick and Ellen (Curran) Loughnane. He graduated from Boston College, class of 1949, and received his master's degree from Boston Teacher's College. He served in the Pacific during World War II in the Army. He worked as a teacher for 35 years for the city of Boston, mostly at the Washington Irving Middle School in Roslindale, retiring in 1986.

Before moving to Falmouth permanently in 1991, he lived in Stoughton for many years.

He is survived by a daughter, Mary MacNeil, and her husband, Paul, of Macon, Ga.; three sons, Joseph P. Jr. and his wife, Lori-Ann, of Canton, Richard J. and his wife, Virginia, of North Attleboro, and John G. Loughnane and his wife, Nora Anne, of Westwood. He was the loving grandfather of eight, John MacNeil, Kimberly, Courtney, Kathryn, Amanda, Gavin, Braden and Shea Loughnane. He was the brother of the late Sister Ellen Patrice, CSJ.

Visiting hours are at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 584 W. Falmouth Highway (Route 28A), West Falmouth, on Wednesday, Aug. 6, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, Aug. 7, at 11 a.m., at St. Patrick's Church, Main Street, Falmouth, with burial to follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
