Charles Miksis Obituary

BARNSTABLE —

Charles J. Miksis Jr., 78, of Barnstable, died on Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009, at the Essex Pavilion Rehabilitation Center in Hyannis.

He was the husband of Valerie M. (Janks) Miksis for 49 years.

Born in Norwood, on May 1, 1930, he was the son of the late Charles and Suzanna (Atkins) Miksis. He graduated from Norwood High School, class of 1948, where he played baseball. He lived in Barnstable for 26 years, previously living in Walpole and Norwood.

A Korean War Army veteran, he was a computer operator at the Kendall Co. in Walpole until his retirement, and previously worked at the Plymouth Press in Norwood.

He was an avid fisherman, clam digger and gardener.

Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, Charles J. Miksis III and his wife, Karolyn, of Walpole, Edward F. Miksis and his wife, Stephanie, of Franklin, and Robert J. Miksis and his wife, Diane, of Shrewsbury; and two grandchildren.

A funeral Mass will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009, at St. Mary's Church. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery, Norwood. Visiting hours are 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 6, 2009, at the Kraw-Kornack Funeral Home, 1248 Washington St., Norwood, 781-762-0482.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
